चेतना और संवेदना के कवि मंगलेश

मैंने समकालीन हिंदी कवियों में सबसे चर्चित कवि मंगलेश डबराल की कविता और साहित्य को ही नहीं, उन्हें प्रत्यक्ष भी खूब पढ़ा है। पहाड़ से दूर रहते हुए भी उन्होंने जिस गहराई से पहाड़ को समझा, उतनी गहराई से शायद ही कोई और समझ पाया हो। वह पहाड़ छोड़कर गए तो फिर लौटकर वापस नहीं आए, लेकिन महानगरीय चकाचौंध में भी उनसे उनके हिस्से का पहाड़ कभी कोई छीन नहीं पाया। उनकी कविता में पहाड़ के प्रति उनकी चाहत, घर और विस्थापन के विचार, उन स्थानों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने का वर्णन किया गया है, जहां से वे आए थे। इसलिए मंगलेश को सुनना मुझे हमेशा ही बड़ा आनंद देता था। 

आप सोच रहे होंगे कि आज अचानक मंगलेश चर्चा में कैसे आ गए। दरअसल, लंबे अर्से बाद आज सुबह साढ़े दस बजे के आसपास साहित्यिक मित्र मुकेश नौटियाल का फ़ोन आया। मैं तब हल्का-फुल्का (सत्तू वगैरह का) नाश्ता कर रहा था। एक-दूसरे का हालचाल जानने के बाद मुकेश भाई सीधे विषय पर आते हुए बोले, 'भाई साहब! आपने मंगलेश डबराल जी पर कुछ लिखा है।' मैंने 'हां' में जवाब तो दिया, लेकिन समझ नहीं पाया कि मुकेश भाई ने यह सवाल पूछा क्यों है। फिर उन्हीं ने मेरे संशय का निदान किया। बोले, 'उत्तराखंड में इतने बड़े साहित्यकार और कवि हुए हैं, लेकिन उनके बारे में जानते तक नहीं। जबकि होना तो यह चाहिए था कि नई पीढ़ी भी उनके बारे में जानती।'

मैंने उनसे सहमति जताई तो वह आगे बोले, 'यार दिनेश भाई, मंगलेश जैसे अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर के कवि हमारे पहाड़ में हुए हैं और हम उनके बारे में कभी चर्चा तक नहीं कर पाते। यही सोचकर मन में विचार आया कि कल क्यों न आधे घंटे मंगलेश की कविता पर बात कर ली जाए।' मुझे भला इसमें क्या आपत्ति हो सकती थी, सो बोला, 'यह तो बहुत अच्छी बात है।' मुकेश भाई मेरा जवाब 'हां' में ही सुनना चाहते थे, इसलिए बोले, 'कल दोपहर एक बजे दूरदर्शन पहुंच जाना। प्रश्नोत्तरी मैं कुछ देर में आपको भेज दूंगा।' मैंने कहा, 'ठीक है।' इसके बाद मुकेश भाई ने फोन रख दिया। तकरीबन एक घंटे में उन्होंने प्रश्नोत्तरी भी भेज दी।

परिचर्चा का विषय था, 'चेतना और संवेदना के कवि - मंगलेश डबराल'। इसमें मुझे और साहित्यकार बीना बेंजवाल को भाग लेना है, जबकि संचालन की जिम्मेदारी स्वयं मुकेश भाई संभाल रहे हैं। मेरे अलावा दोनों ही लोग बहुत अच्छे वक्ता हैं। मैंने मंगलेश को खूब पढ़ा और सुना है। उनसे वैचारिक साम्य भी रहा। उन पर और उनके साहित्य पर बेहतरीन ढंग से लिख भी सकता हूं, लेकिन यह कहने में मुझे कोई संकोच नहीं कि मैं कोई वक्ता नहीं हूं। मतलब लच्छेदार बोलना मुझे नहीं आता। खैर! मुकेश भाई ने मुझे परिचर्चा के लिए उपयुक्त माना है तो इसके पीछे कोई वजह तो जरूर रही होगी। इसलिए कल का बेसब्री से इंतजार है। पत्रकार हूं, स्थितियां कैसी भी हों, उनका मुकाबला करना जानता हूं।

Poet of consciousness and sensitivity

I have not only read the poetry and literature of Manglesh Dabral, the most famous contemporary Hindi poet, but have also read him directly.  Despite being away from the mountain, he understood the mountain with such depth that hardly anyone else could.  When he left the mountain, he never came back, but even in the glare of the metropolitan world, no one could ever take away his share of the mountain from him.  His poetry describes his longing for the mountain, the ideas of home and displacement, representing the places he came from.  That's why listening to Manglesh always gave me great pleasure.

You must be wondering how Manglesh suddenly came into discussion today.  Actually, after a long time, today around 10.30 am, I got a call from literary friend Mukesh Nautiyal.  I was then having light breakfast (of Sattu etc.).  After knowing each other's well-being, Mukesh Bhai came straight to the topic and said, 'Brother!  You have written something on Manglesh Dabral ji.  I replied 'yes', but could not understand why Mukesh Bhai had asked this question.  Then he solved my doubt.  He said, 'There have been so many great litterateurs and poets in Uttarakhand, but we don't even know about them.  Whereas it should have happened that the new generation also knew about him.

When I agreed with him, he further said, 'Man, there are international level poets like Dinesh Bhai, Manglesh in our mountain and we are never able to even discuss about them.  Thinking this, the thought came to my mind that why not talk about Manglesh's poetry for half an hour tomorrow.  What objection could I have to this, so I said, 'This is a very good thing.'  Mukesh Bhai wanted to hear my answer only in 'yes', so he said, 'Please reach Doordarshan tomorrow at 1 pm.  I will send you the quiz in some time.  I said, 'Okay.'  After this Mukesh Bhai hung up the phone.  In about an hour he also sent the questionnaire.

The topic of discussion was, 'Poet of consciousness and sensitivity - Manglesh Dabral'.  I and litterateur Beena Benjwal have to participate in this, while Mukesh Bhai himself is handling the responsibility of operation.  Apart from me, both the people are very good speakers.  I have read and heard Manglesh a lot.  There was also ideological similarity with him.  I can write very well on him and his literature, but I have no hesitation in saying that I am not a speaker.  Meaning, I don't know how to speak waxed.  well!  Mukesh Bhai has considered me suitable for the discussion, so there must be some reason behind it.  So eagerly waiting for tomorrow.  I am a journalist, no matter what the situations are, I know how to deal with them.
