इस वक्त उत्तरांचल प्रेस क्लब की त्रैमासिक पत्रिका "गुलदस्ता" का वार्षिकांक मेरे हाथ में है। आज क्लब कार्यकारिणी की आखिरी आमसभा भी थी। इसी दौरान पत्रिका का भी विमोचन हुआ। इस बार विमोचन क्लब के वरिष्ठ साथियों के हाथों हुआ। पत्रिका का संपादन मैंने किया है, इसलिए मुझे तो उपस्थित रहना ही था। कार्यकारिणी की ओर से कुछ सदस्यों को "सक्रिय सदस्य" सम्मान से भी नवाजा गया। संयोग से इनमें एक मैं भी था। इसके लिए मुझे विशेष रूप से आमंत्रित किया गया था। क्लब कार्यकारिणी की ओर से दोपहर के भोजन की व्यवस्था भी की गई थी।

कहने का मतलब आज का दिन मेरे लिए व्यस्तताओं भरा रहा। पूर्वाह्न 11 बजे के आसपास मैं क्लब पहुंच गया था। अपराह्न साढे़ तीन बजे के आसपास वहां से लौटना हो पाया, लेकिन रूम में नहीं, आफिस में। रूम में तो रुटीन के हिसाब से मैं रात 11 बजे के आसपास ही पहुंचा। खास बात यह रही कि वार्षिक आमसभा संपन्न होने के साथ ही नई कार्यकारिणी के चुनाव की प्रक्रिया भी आरंभ हो गई। इसके लिए बाकायदा मुख्य व सहायक चुनाव आधिकारी नामित कर दिए गए। चुनाव संभवतः 28 दिसंबर को होंगे, लेकिन इसकी अधिकृत घोषणा मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी की ओर से होनी है।

 खैर! चुनाव किसी भी दिन हों, मुझे इससे क्या। कौन-सा मुझे चुनाव लड़ना है। मेरी भूमिका तो सिर्फ वोटर की है। दरअसल, कुछ साथी चाहते हैं कि मैं भी नई कार्यकारिणी का हिस्सा बनूं, लेकिन मेरी कतई इच्छा नहीं है। सच कहूं तो वर्तमान में मेरे लिए ऐसा संभव भी नहीं है। मैं फिलहाल अध्ययन को ज्यादा वक्त देना चाहता हूं। हां! भविष्य में परिस्थितियां अनुकूल रहेंगी तो जरूर चुनाव में उतरा जाएगा। सो, इस पर आज माथापच्ची क्यों की जाए।

एक बात और, जो मुझे कहनी तो नहीं चाहिए, पर हालात कहने को विवश कर रहे हैं। वह यह कि प्रेस क्लब के लगभग 300 सदस्यों में से गिनती के सदस्य ही पढ़ने-लिखने में रुचि दिखाते हैं। क्लब की लाइब्रेरी  भी पूरे दिन सूनी पडी़ रहती है। वहां से पढ़ने के लिए पुस्तक घर ले जाना भी किसी को गवारा नहीं। बामुश्किल पांचेक सदस्य ही ऐसा करने का जोखिम उठाते हैं। उनमें से एक मैं भी हूं। आप खुद अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं कि मैं चुनाव लड़ने में क्यों रुचि नहीं ले रहा। क्योंकि, पढ़ने-लिखने का कार्य तो मैं बगैर चुनाव लडे़ भी कर सकता हूं और वर्तमान में भी कर रहा हूं।

One day in the name of press club

At present I have the annual issue of "Guldasta" quarterly magazine of Uttaranchal Press Club.  Today was also the last general meeting of the club executive.  During this time, the magazine was also released.  This time the release took place at the hands of the club's senior teammates.  I have edited the magazine, so I had to be present.  Some members were also awarded "Active Member" honors from the executive.  Incidentally I was one of them.  I was particularly invited for this.  Lunch was also arranged by the club executive.

To say that today was a busy day for me.  I reached the club around 11 am.  Was able to return from around 3:30 pm, but not in the room, in the office.  According to the routine, I arrived in the room around 11 pm.  The special thing is that with the completion of the annual general assembly, the process of electing the new executive has also started.  For this, the Chief and Assistant Election Officers were nominated.  Elections are likely to be held on December 28, but it is to be announced by the Chief Electoral Officer.

Well!  Election should be held any day, what should I do with it.  Which one do I have to contest?  My role is only that of the voter.  Actually, some colleagues want me to be a part of the new executive, but I have no desire.  Frankly, it is not possible for me at present.  I want to give more time to study at the moment.  Yes!  If the circumstances are favorable in future, then definitely will be landed in the election.  So why should it be discussed today?

One more thing, which I do not want to say, but the circumstances are forcing me to say.  That is, out of about 300 members of the Press Club, only counting members show interest in reading and writing.  The library of the club is also dotted throughout the day.  It is also not acceptable to take a book home to read from there.  Barely five members risk doing so.  I am also one of them.  You can guess yourself why I am not interested in contesting elections.  Because, I can do the work of reading and writing without contesting elections and currently doing it.
