मकर संक्रांति कवरेज का यादगार दिन

मकर संक्रांति का स्नान संपन्न हो चुका है और हम भी (मैं और छायाकार साथी राजेश बड़थ्वाल) हरिद्वार से देहरादून वापस लौट चुके हैं। जबकि, अभी रात के दस भी नहीं बजे। भोजन हमने रायवाला में कर दिया था। वहां एक मित्र का होटल है। उसने लौटते हुए रायवाला में रुकने का कहा था। हालांकि, जब हम हरिद्वार से लौट रहे थे तो वो ऋषिकेश से हरिद्वार की ओर आ रहा था। हमने फोन कर उसे बताया कि शांतिकुंज के पास पहुंचने वाले हैं तो वह भी आधे रास्ते से रायवाला की ओर लौट पड़ा। तकरीबन एक घंटा हम रायवाला में रुके। 2010 के कुंभ में भी हम कई बार भोजन करने इसी मित्र के होटल में आ जाते थे।

खैर! मित्र के साथ दावत उडा़ने के बीते दौर के कई किस्से हैं, जिन पर आगे कभी चर्चा करूंगा। फिलहाल तो आज की बात की जाए। स्नानों की कवरेज का हमें लंबा अनुभव है, इसलिए आज भी हम तड़के चार बजे उठ गए थे। फ्रैश होकर सीधे ई-रिक्शा पकडा़ और चल पडे़ हरकी पैडी़ की ओर। जैसे-जैसे हम हरकी पैडी़ की ओर बढ़ रहे थे, ठंड बढ़ती जा रही थी। गंगा की लहरों से उठती शीतलहर तन में सिहरन दौडा़ रही थी। हम रिक्शे से उतरकर सीधे हरकी पैडी़ नहीं गए, बल्कि पहले एक छायाकार मित्र के घर जाने की ठानी। इस मित्र का घर हरकी पैडी़ से लगभग दो किमी पहले गंगनहर के पास एक गली में है। उसे भी हरकी पैडी़ जाना था, इसलिए बीती शाम उसने घर में आने को कह दिया था।

जब हम छायाकर मित्र के घर पहुंचे, तब वह तैयार हो रहा था। उसने हमें नसीहत दी कि कुछ खाकर ही हरकी पैडी़ जाना चाहिए और कुछ बादाम व काले किशमिश खाने को दिए। फिर हम उसी कि बाइक पर चल पडे़ हरकी पैडी़ की ओर। गंगा मैया की जै-जैकार से वातावरण गूंज रहा था। ठंड इतनी ज्यादा थी कि कहीं पर ठहरते ही पैर खुद-ब-खुद कीर्तन करने लगते। धुंध के कारण दो मीटर के फासले पर आदमी पहचान में नहीं आ रहा था। खैर! हमें तो कुछ घंटे यहीं गुजारने थे। इसलिए एक छोर से दूसरे छोर की परिक्रमा करने लगे। बीच में एक छोटी-सी दुकान पर बिस्कुट के साथ चाय की चुस्कियां भी ली और फिर मालवीय द्वीप की ओर चल पडे़।

तकरीबन सवा दस बजे तक हम हरकी पैडी़ पर रहे और फिर छायाकार मित्र हमें अपनी बाइक पर डामकोठी पुल के पास छोड़ आए। वहां भी किसी कार्यक्रम की कवरेज करनी थी। पौने ग्यारह बजे हम होटल वापस पहुंचे और तकरीबन आधे घंटे बाद हमने होटल छोड़ दिया। इतना वक्त स्नान आदि में लगना ही था। यहां से हम सीधे नाश्ता करने पहुंचे और फिर आफिस पहुंचकृर जुट गए खबर लिखने-फोटो बनाने में। इसके चलते दोपहर का भोजन चार बजे के आसपास हो पाया। एकाध घंटे बाद मोमो का भी जायका लिया। सचमुच हरिद्वार के इन मोमो का जवाब नहीं। संभवतः ये सिर्फ हरिद्वार में ही बनते हैं। बहरहाल! छह बज चुके थे। काम भी पूरा हो गया था। सो, अब देहरादून की राह पकड़ने में ही बेहतरी थी...।

The shower of Makar Sankranti is over and we too (myself and cinematographer partner Rajesh Bartwal) have returned from Haridwar to Dehradun.  Whereas, it is not even ten o'clock at night.  We had food in Raiwala.  There is a friend's hotel.  He asked to stay back at Raiwala.  However, when we were returning from Haridwar, it was coming from Rishikesh towards Haridwar.  We called him and told him that he was about to reach Shantikunj, so he also returned halfway to Raiwala.  We stayed in Raiwala for about an hour.  Even in 2010 Kumbh, we used to come to this friend's hotel to have food many times.

Well!  There are many stories from the last round of partying with friends, which I will discuss further.  At present, it is to be talked about today.  We have a long experience of bathing coverage, so today we were up at four in the morning.  Freshened and caught the e-rickshaw directly and walked towards his paddy.  As we were moving towards her paddy, the cold was increasing.  The cold wave rising from the waves of the Ganges was shuddering in the body.  We did not get straight from the rickshaw to the harkie padi, but decided to go to a cinematographer's house first.  This friend's house is in a street near Gangnahar, about two km before Harki Paddy.  He too had to go to his office, so last evening he asked to come into the house.

When we arrived at Shahadra Mitra's house, he was getting ready.  He advised us that every meal should be eaten and given some almonds and black raisins.  Then we started walking on the bike on the same side.  The atmosphere was resonating with Ganga Maiya's Jai-Jaikar.  The cold was so much that the feet started doing kirtan on their own.  The man was not recognized at the distance of two meters due to the haze.  Well!  We had to spend a few hours here.  So they started circling from one end to the other.  In a small shop in the middle, we also took tea sips with biscuits and then walked towards Malviya Island.

We stayed at his paddi till about ten and a quarter past ten and then the cinematographer friend left us on his bike near the Damkothi bridge.  Coverage of an event was also there.  We arrived back at the hotel at quarter to eleven and after about half an hour we left the hotel.  This much time had to be spent in bathing etc.  From here, we went straight to breakfast and then reached the office to write news and make photos.  This led to lunch around 4 o'clock.  After a few hours I also took a taste of Momo.  Not really the answer to these momos from Haridwar.  Probably they are made only in Haridwar.  However!  It was six o'clock.  The work was also completed.  So, it was better to catch the path of Dehradun now….
