मेष संक्रांति यानी हरिद्वार कुंभ के मुख्य स्नान का दिन। इसके अलावा यह दूसरे शाही स्नान का दिन भी था। जाहिर है इसका आकर्षण भी सबसे ज्यादा होना ही था। हालांकि, हमें आज हरकी पैडी़ पहुंचने की जल्दी नहीं थी, क्योंकि शाही स्नान सुबह नौ बजे से शुरू होना था। अच्छी बात यह थी कि सुबह आठ बजे तक आम श्रद्धालुओं को हरकी पैडी़ पर स्नान की अनुमति थी। हम भी आज पहले किसी अखाडे़ की छावनी में नहीं गए, बल्कि होटल से सीधे हरकी पैडी़ की ओर निकल पडे़। चंडी चौक फ्लाईओवर पार करने के बाद हमने स्कूटी को ज्योतिर्मठ के शंकराचार्य स्वामी स्वरूपानंद सरस्वती के कुंभ कैंप के पास खडा़ किया और फिर पैदल ही निकल पडे़। जब हम हरकी पैडी़ पंहुचे, तब सुबह के आठ बज रहे थे।
हरकी पैडी़ और मालवीय द्वीप पर काफी भीड़ थी। श्रद्धालु लगातार स्नान को पहुंच रहे थे, वहीं पुलिस कंट्रोल रूम से लगातार मुनादी हो रही थी कि श्रद्धालु जल्द से जल्द घाट को खाली कर दें। जब लोगों ने इस ओर ध्यान नहीं दिया तो पुलिस स्वयं ही घाट खाली कराने में जुट गई। ठीक पौने नौ बजे घाट पूरी तरह खाली हो चुका था। सिवाय मीडिया कर्मियों, फोर्स व स्वयं सेवियों के वहां कोई नजर नहीं आ रहा था। जैसे ही घडी़ ने नौ बजाए, मालवीय द्वीप पर दायीं तरफ का पुल कदमों की गड़गडा़हट से गूंजने लगा। मैंने उधर नजर दौडा़ई तो निरंजनी अखाडे़ के साधु-संत व नागा संन्यासियों का हुजूम चला आ रहा था। पलभर में पूरी हरकी पैडी़ आवधूती आभा में नहा उठी।
स्नान का क्रम 12 अप्रैल को सोमवती अमावस्या पर हुए पहले शाही स्नान वाला ही था। सबसे पहले निरंजनी अखाडा़ और साथ में आनंद अखाडा़, इसके बाद जूना अखाडा़ और साथ में अग्नि, आह्वान व किन्नर अखाडा़, फिर महानिर्वाणी अखाडा़ व साथ में अटल अखाडा़ स्नान के लिए पहुंचे। दूसरे चरण में तीनों बैरागी अणियां (निर्वाणी, निर्मोही व दिगंबर), उनके 18 अखाडे़ और 1200 खालसे अपने-अपने अध्यक्षों की अगुआई में स्नान के लिए पहुंचे। फिर बारी थी बडा़ अखाडा़ उदासीन और नया अखाडा़ उदासीन की। सबसे आखिर में निर्मल अखाडे़ के संत-महंतों ने शाही डुबकी लगाई। हालांकि, हम बडा़ अखाडा़ उदासीन के स्नान के बाद ही हरकी पैडी़ से लौट आए थे।
आफिस पहुंचकर चाय पीने के बाद सबसे पहले मैंने खबरें निपटाईं। इस बीच छायाकार साथी राजेश बड़थ्वाल एक अन्य साथी राजू पुशोला के साथ होटल चले गए। दरअसल, पहले हमने आज ही वापस देहरादून लौटने का मन बनाया था, इसलिए सुबह ही होटल छोड़कर सामान रिसेप्शन में रखवा दिया था। लेकिन, शाम को ऐसा संभव नहीं हो पाया। लिहाजा, दोबारा रूम लिया गया। रात नौ बजे मैं बड़थ्वाल के साथ होटल में पहुंचा। खाना अन्य दिनों की तरह आफिस के पास वाले होटल से पैक करा लिया था।
इस समय रात के साढे़ ग्यारह बजे हैं। सुबह रिपोर्टिंग के लिए कहीं जाना नहीं है, इसलिए जल्दी उठने की भी चिंता नहीं है। आराम से देहरादून के लिए रवाना होंगे। प्रोग्राम है कि होटल से नाश्ता करके निकलेंगे। नाश्ते के पैसे हमने एडवांस कटवा रखे हैं, लेकिन और दिन इसका मौका ही नहीं मिल पा रहा था। खास बात यह कि आप दो सदस्य हों या तीन, दो सौ रुपये में पेट भरकर मनपसंद नाश्ता कर सकते हैं। यह इस होटल की मुझे सबसे बडी़ खूबी लगी। खैर! बाकी बातें कल होंगी, फिलहाल तो सो लिया जाए। शुभरात्रि!!!

Aries Sankranti : Main bath of Haridwar Kumbh

Aries Sankranti means the main bathing day of Haridwar Kumbh. Apart from this, it was also the day of the second royal bath. Apparently, it also had to be the most attractive. However, we were in no hurry to reach Harki Padi today, as the royal bath was to begin at nine o'clock in the morning. The good thing was that till eight o'clock in the morning, the common devotees were allowed to bathe on their paddies. We also did not go to any cantonment camp earlier today, but had to go straight from the hotel towards every paddy. After crossing the Chandi Chowk flyover, we parked Scooty near the Kumbh Camp of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati of Jyotirmath and then got out on foot. When we reached every paddy, it was eight o'clock in the morning.
Harki Padi and Malaviya were crowded on the island. While the devotees were constantly reaching Bath, the police control room was constantly making money so that the devotees could evacuate the ghat as soon as possible. When people did not pay attention to this, the police themselves started to evacuate the ghat. At exactly quarter to nine, the ghat was completely empty. Except there was no visible presence of media personnel, force and volunteers. As the clock struck nine, the bridge on the right hand side of Malaviya Island echoed with a roar of steps. When I looked there, the saints and Naga ascetics of Niranjani Akhade were flocking. In a matter of time, the whole of his body was bathed in a periodic aura.
The order of bathing was the first royal bath on Somavati Amavasya on 12 April. First Niranjani Akhara and together Anand Akhada, followed by Juna Akhada and together Agni, Awaan and Kinnar Akhada, then Mahanirvani Akhada and along with Atal Akhada reached for a bath. In the second phase, the three Bairagi Ananias (Nirvani, Nirmohi and Digambara), their 18 Akharas and 1200 Khalsay reached for a bath under the leadership of their respective presidents. Then it was the turn of the big arena indifferent and the new arena indifferent. Lastly, the saints and Mahants of Nirmal Akhade performed the royal dip. However, we returned from our paddies only after a bath of a large akhada apathetic.
After reaching the office and drinking tea, I first dealt with the news. Meanwhile cinematographer Rajesh Barthalwal went to the hotel along with another partner Raju Pushola. Actually, earlier we had made up our mind to return to Dehradun today, so left the hotel in the morning and kept the goods in reception. However, this was not possible in the evening. Therefore, the room was taken again. I reached the hotel with Barathwal at nine o'clock. Like other days, the food was packed from the hotel near the office.
It is half past eleven at night. There is no place to go for reporting in the morning, so don't worry about getting up early. Will leave for Dehradun comfortably. There is a program to leave the hotel for breakfast. We have kept the advance money for breakfast, but could not get a chance for another day. The special thing is that you can have two members or have three, two hundred rupees to fill your favorite breakfast. I liked this hotel the most. Well!
