आज फूल संगरांद है। उत्तराखंडी लोक में इसे फूल संक्रांति, फूलदेई, छम्मादेई, दैणीद्वार आदि नामों से जाना जाता है। जब सूर्य का मीन राशि में आगमन होता है, तब यह लोकपर्व पड़ता है। इसलिए इसे मीन संक्रांति भी कहते हैं। वैसे तो फूलों का यह पर्व आठ दिनों तक चलता है, लेकिन गढ़वाल में कुछ स्थानों पर इसे पूरे महीने भी मनाया जाता है। बच्चे बिखोती यानी मेष संक्रांति तक उत्साहपूर्वक इसके साथ जुडे़ रहते हैं। छोटे-छोटे बच्चे रोज गोधूलि की बेला में हर घर की दहलीज पर फूल डालकर गाते हैं, 'फूलदेई-फूलदेई फूल संगरांद, सुफल करो नयो साल तुमुक श्री भगवान, रंगीला-सजीला फूल ऐ गीं, डाला़-बोटला़ हर्या ह्वेगीं, पौन-पंछी दौडी़ गैना, डाल़्यूं फूल है सदा रैना।' इसके साथ ही वो यह भी गाते हैं, 'चला फुलारी फूलों की, सौदा-सौदा फूल बिरौला, भौंरों का जूठा फूल ना तोड्यां, म्वारर्यूं का जूठा फूल न लैयां।'

कई गांवों में बच्चों के अलावा परिवार के सभी लोग अपने घरों में उगाई गई हर्याल़ (हरियाली) की टोकरियों को गांव के चौक (आंगन) में इकट्ठा कर उसकी सामूहिक पूजा करते हैं। फिर हर्याल़ को घरों की चौखट पर लगाया जाता है। चैत (चैत्र) के महीने पहाड़ में ब्याहता बेटियों (धियाण) को कलेवा (दाल के भरे हुए स्वाले़, रोट आदि) देने का रिवाज भी है। कुमाऊं में इसे भिटोली (भेंट) कहा जाता है। एक दौर में यह मैत्यों (मायके वालों) के पास दूर ब्याही बेटी की कुशलक्षेम पूछने का बहाना भी हुआ करता था। तब भाई कलेवा या भिटोला लेकर बहन के मायके जाता था। बहन खुशि-खुशी अपने आस-पडो़स में इस कलेवा को बांटती थी। लेकिन, समय के थपेडे़ सहते-सहते यह परंपरा रस्मी होती चली गई। 

हालांकि, सुकून वाली बात ये है कि बीते कुछ वर्षों में लोक के प्रहरियों ने लुप्त हो रही अपनी इस समृद्ध विरासत को दोबारा प्रतिष्ठापित करने का बीडा़ उठाया है। इनमें लोक के सरोकारों से जुडी़ 'धाद' संस्था का नाम प्रमुखता से लिया जा सकता है। इसके अलावा बीते एक दशक से 'रंगोली' आंदोलन के संस्थापक शशिभूषण मैठाणी भी अपने स्तर से इस लोक विरासत के प्रचार-प्रसार जुटे हुए हैं। उनके प्रयासों से देहरादून जैसे दिखावे को वास्तविकता मानने वाले शहर में बीते एक दशक से सीमित स्तर पर ही सही, लेकिन फूल संगरांद मनाई जा रही है। देहरादून के अंग्रेजी माध्यम स्कूलों में पढ़ने वाले बच्चे अब मैठाणीजी के साथ हर साल राजभवन व मुख्यमंत्री आवास लेकर तमाम प्रमुख स्थानों पर देहरियों में रंग-बिरंगे फूल बिखेरते हैं। 

अच्छी बात यह है कि नई पीढी़ के आभिभावक व शिक्षक सीमित संख्या में ही सही, लेकिन लोक परंपराओं के संरक्षण को अपनी जिम्मेदारी समझने लगे हैं। संयोग से आज उत्तरांचल प्रेस क्लब को भी फूल संगराद मनाने का मौका मिला और इसका हेतु भी मैठाणीजी ही बने। उन्होंने कल शाम संदेश भिजवाया था कि बच्चों की टोली के साथ वह आज दोपहर बारह बजे उत्तरांचल प्रेस क्लब पहुंच रहे हैं। हमने खुशी-खुशी तत्काल 'हां' कर दी। लेकिन, सुबह प्रेस क्लब अध्यक्ष अंथवालजी का वाट्सएप मैसेज आया कि अब वह साढे़ दस बजे ही पहुंच रहे हैं। सो, सुबह स्नानादि के बाद मैं सीधे प्रेस क्लब पहुंच गया। 

पूर्वाह्न साढे़ ग्यारह बजे के आसपास ढोल-दमौ व मशकबाज के साथ मैठाणीजी के नेतृत्व में रंग-बिरंगे फूलों की टोकरियां लिए बच्चों की टोली भी क्लब पहुंच गई। बच्चों के साथ उनके शिक्षक व अभिभावक भी थे। क्लब के प्रवेशद्वार पर हमने इन मेहमानों की आगवानी की। हमारी अपेक्षा से कहीं अधिक बच्चे क्लब पहुंचे थे। हालांकि, इसका अंदेशा हमें पहले से ही था, इसलिए बच्चों के लिए गिफ्ट आइटम पर्याप्त संख्या में रखवा लिए थे। इसके बाद क्लब के सभागार में बच्चों के साथ फूलदेई पर्व और लोक परंपराओं के संरक्षण पर चर्चा हुई। लोक से जुडा़व होने के कारण मुझे भी इस दौरान अपनी बात रखने का मौका मिला। मैठाणीजी के साथ बच्चों ने भी अपने अनुभव साझा किए। फिर सभी ने सूक्ष्म जलपान किया।

सच कहूं तो मेरे लिए यह बेहद शानदार एवं यादगार अनुभव रहा। मैं चाहता हूं कि लोक परंपराओं पर निरंतर चर्चा होती रही। हमारे तीज-त्योहारों की समृद्ध विरासत से नई पीढी़ परिचित हो और उसे आगे बढा़ने में भी सहभागी बने। समाज एवं राष्ट्र की उन्नति के लिए यह बेहद जरूरी है। खैर! संस्कृति एवं परंपराओं पर चर्चा-परिचर्चा आगे भी जारी रहेगी। फिलहाल तो नींद के आगोश में जाने का वक्त हो गया है, इसलिए बाकी बातें कल पर छोड़ता हुशढढ तब तक के लिए नमस्कार। आप सभी को फूल संगरांद की बहुत-बहुत शुभकामनाएं।

Today is flower sangarand.  In Uttarakhandi folk it is known as Phool Sankranti, Phuldei, Chammadei, Dainidwar etc.  When the Sun enters the sign of Pisces, then this festival falls.  That is why it is also called Meen Sankranti.  Although this festival of flowers lasts for eight days, but in some places in Garhwal it is also celebrated for the whole month.  Children are enthusiastically associated with it till Bikhoti i.e. Mesh Sankranti.  Small children put flowers on the doorstep of every house every day at dusk and sing, 'Phaldei-Phuldei flower sangarand, make happy new year Tumuk Sri Bhagwan, colorful-adorable flowers Ae Gin, Dala-Botla Harya Hwegi, Paun-Panchi'  Rune Gaina, Dalyun Phool is always Raina.'  Along with this, he also sings, 'Chala Phulari flowers, Sauda-sauda flowers, Biraula, bumblebees' left flowers, no flowers, Mwarryun's left flowers.'

 

In many villages, apart from the children, all the family members collect the baskets of Haryaal (greenery) grown in their homes in the village square (courtyard) and worship it collectively.  Then Haryal is applied on the doorsteps of the houses.  There is also a custom of giving kalewa (stuffed dal, roti, etc.) to daughters (Dhiyan) married in the mountain in the month of Chaitra (Chaitra).  In Kumaon it is called Bhitoli (offering).  Once upon a time, this used to be an excuse for the Maityas (mother-in-law) to inquire about the well-being of a distant married daughter.  Then the brother used to take Kaleva or Bhitola to the sister's maternal home.  Sister happily used to distribute this kalewa in her neighbourhood.  But, with the passage of time, this tradition became ritual.

 However, it is a matter of comfort that in the last few years, the guards of the people have taken the initiative to restore this rich heritage which is vanishing.  Among these, the name of 'Dhad' organization related to the concerns of the people can be taken prominently.  Apart from this, Shashibhushan Maithani, the founder of 'Rangoli' movement for the past decade, is also engaged in the promotion of this folk heritage from his level.  Due to his efforts, the city, which considers appearances like Dehradun to be a reality, is being celebrated on a limited scale for the past decade, but flower Sangrand is being celebrated.  Children studying in English-medium schools of Dehradun now, along with Maithani ji, take Raj Bhavan and Chief Minister's residence every year and spread colorful flowers in the dehris at all the major places.

 

The good thing is that only a limited number of parents and teachers of the new generation, but the preservation of folk traditions, have started to understand their responsibility.  Incidentally, today Uttaranchal Press Club also got a chance to celebrate flower sangrad and Maithanji became the reason for this too.  He had sent a message last evening that he was reaching Uttaranchal Press Club at 12 noon today along with a group of children.  We happily said 'yes' immediately.  But, in the morning, a WhatsApp message came from Press Club President Anthwalji that now he is reaching only at 10.30.  So, in the morning after taking bath, I went straight to the Press Club.

 Around 11.30 in the morning, a group of children with colorful flower baskets under the leadership of Maithanji, accompanied by drums and drums, also reached the club.  The children were accompanied by their teachers and parents.  We received these guests at the entrance of the club.  More kids had arrived at the club than we expected.  However, we had anticipated this in advance, so had kept enough number of gift items for the kids.  After this, discussions were held with the children in the auditorium of the club on the festival of Phuldei and the preservation of folk traditions.  Due to my association with the people, I also got a chance to speak during this time.  Children also shared their experiences with Maithanji.  Then everyone took subtle refreshments.

 

To be honest, it was a wonderful and memorable experience for me.  I want that there should be continuous discussion on folk traditions.  The new generation should be acquainted with the rich heritage of our Teej-festivals and also participate in taking it forward.  It is very important for the progress of society and nation.  So!  Discussion and discussion on culture and traditions will continue.  For now, it is time to go into the lap of sleep, so leaving the rest of the things for tomorrow, hello till then.  Wishing you all a very Happy Flower Sangarand.

रंगोत्सव

आज सुबह से ही व्यस्त कार्यक्रम रहा। इस बार मैं भी उत्तरांचल प्रेस क्लब की कार्यकारिणी का हिस्सा हूं, इसलिए व्यस्तता होना लाजिमी था। रात ही तय हो गया था कि सभी सदस्य व पदाधिकारियों को रंगोत्सव की व्यवस्थाएं बनाने के लिए समय से क्लब पहुंचना है। सो, मैं ठीक साढे़ नौ बजे ड्यूटी पर पहुंच गया। उस समय नवीन क्लब परिसर में टेंट लगवा रहा था। कुर्सियां लगवा ली गई थीं। कुछ कमियां रह गई थीं, जिन्हें नवीन व मैंने दुरुस्त करवा लिया। उधर, क्लब प्रभारी सुबोध भट्ट ने हमारे लिए नाश्ते का इंतजाम कर लिया था। नाश्ते में छोले-भटूरे बने थे। सभी ने आराम से बैठकर नाश्ता किया और फिर जुट गए जिम्मेदारियों के निर्वहन में। तब तक अध्यक्ष जितेंद्र अंथवाल व महामंत्री ओपी बेंजवाल समेत कुछ अन्य सदस्य भी क्लब पहुंच गए थे।

इस बार होली के मौके पर हम कुछ नया करना चाहते थे। इसके लिए हमने देहरादून के सबसे पुराने आर्केस्ट्रा अलेक्जेंडर एंड ग्रुप को कार्यक्रम में बुलाया था। 11 बजे के आसपास अपने ग्रुप के साथ अलेक्जेंडर क्लब पहुंचे और इंस्ट्रूमेंट सेट करने में जुट गए। पांडाल हमने खुला रखा था। दरअसल, हमें इस बात का इल्म ही नहीं था कि खुले में धूप इतनी तेज लगेगी, लेकिन अब किया भी क्या जा सकता था। सुकून इस बात का है कि रंगों के उल्लास में क्लब सदस्य एवं उनके परिवारों ने इस ओर विशेष ध्यान नहीं दिया। हालांकि, हमसे चूक तो हुई ही थी, जिसे बाद में पूरी कार्यकारिणी ने सार्वजनिक रूप से भी स्वीकार किया और भविष्य में इसकी पुनरावृत्ति न होने देने का भरोसा दिलाया।

इस बीच अचानक मुझे याद आया कि ईनामी कूपन की बुक तो जल्दबाजी में मैं रूम में ही छोड़ आया हूं। जबकि लक्की ड्रा में ये कूपन भी शामिल किए जाने थे। पहले तो मैंने सोचा कि इस बात को यहीं भुला दूं, लेकिन जब पता चला कि कार्यकारिणी सदस्य सोबन सिंह भी अपनी बुक घर पर ही छोड़ आया है तो फिर योजना बनाई कि रूम से कूपन बुक लेकर आया जाया। सोबन का फ्लैट और मेरा रूम एक ही रूट पर पड़ता है, इसलिए साथी दिनेश खत्री से स्कूटी लेकर हम दोनों चल पडे़ कूपन बुक लेने अपने-अपने ठौर की ओर। लगभग 40 मिनट बाद हम फिर प्रेस क्लब में थे, तब तक रंगोत्सव का आगाज हो चुका था। वातावरण में अबीर-गुलाल की महक के बीच अलेक्जेंडर के गीत गूंज रहे थे।

मुख्य अतिथि के रूम में बडे़ भाई सुभाष शर्मा और अन्य अतिथि बडे़ भाई लोकेश नवानी, नवोदय टाइम्स (पंजाब केसरी) के संपादक निशीथ जोशी आदि अगली पांत में बैठे हुए थे। अतिथि सत्कार की प्रक्रिया पूर्ण हो चुकी थी। आपकी जानकारी के लिए बता दूं कि सुभाष भाई समाजसेवी के साथ वरिष्ठ पत्रकार भी हैं। दो दशक पहले उन्होंने देहरादून से बडे़ स्तर पर दैनिक 'हिमालय दर्पण' का प्रकाशन शुरू किया था। तब यह पत्र खासा लोकप्रिय हुआ था और हम भी इससे जुडे़ रहे। यह प्रदेश की बदकिस्मती ही थी कि अल्पकाल में ही इस पत्र का प्रकाशन बंद हो गया। अब सुभाष भाई इसी नाम से पोर्टल चला रहे हैं। 

कार्यक्रम में रंगत बिखर रही थी। अलेक्जेंडर की गायकी में वही ताजगी थी, जो आज से 40-45 साल पहले रही होगी। लग ही नहीं रहा था कि उनकी उम्र 75 साल की हो चुकी है। चेहरे पर वही चमक, अंदाज में वही लटक। पांडाल में मौजूद जिन लोगों ने भी अपने दौर में अलेक्जेंडर को सुना है, वह भावविभोर नजर आ रहे थे। अलेक्जेंडर ने भी अपने इन परिचितों  की फरमाइश पूरी करने में कोई कसर बाकी नहीं रखी। होरी गीत की उनकी आखिरी प्रस्तुति पर तो खूब अबीर- गुलाल उडा़ और पूरा पांडाल झूम उठा। कार्यक्रम के बीच में ही बच्चों ने भी अपनी प्रस्तुतियां दीं और लक्की ड्रा निकालने के साथ पुरस्कार भी वितरित किए गए। 

भोजन का वक्त हो चुका, सो सुभाष भाई, लोकेश भाई व अलेक्जेंडर के साथ हम सभी कार्यकारिणी सदस्यों ने कैंटीन में एक साथ बैठकर भोजन किया और फिर क्लब कार्यालय में चाय की चुस्कियां लीं। इसके बाद अतिथियों की विदाई के साथ ही शाम चार बजे के आसपास मैंने भी सतीजी के साथ आफिस की राह पकड़ ली। इस समय रात के बारह बजे हैं और सोने की तैयारी हो रही है। थकान काफी हो रही थी, इसलिए आफिस से मैं दस बजे के आसपास रूम में लौट आया था। फिलहाल नींद से आंखें बोझिल हुई जा रही हैं, इसलिए शेष बातें कल होंगी। तब तक के लिए नमस्कार।

Festival of colors

It's been a busy schedule since this morning.  This time I am also a part of the executive committee of Uttaranchal Press Club, so it was bound to be busy.  It was decided in the night itself that all the members and office bearers have to reach the club on time to make arrangements for the festival.  So, I reached duty exactly at 9.30.  At that time Naveen was getting tents set up in the club premises.  Chairs were installed.  There were some shortcomings, which Naveen and I got them rectified.  On the other hand, club in-charge Subodh Bhatt had arranged breakfast for us.  Chole-bhature was made for breakfast.  Everyone sat comfortably and had breakfast and then got involved in discharging the responsibilities.  By then President Jitendra Anthwal and General Secretary OP Benzwal and some other members had also reached the club.

This time on the occasion of Holi, we wanted to do something new.  For this, we had invited the oldest orchestra of Dehradun, Alexander & Group, to the program.  Around 11 o'clock Alexander with his group reached the club and started setting up the instrument.  We had kept the pandal open.  Actually, we had no idea that the sun would be so strong in the open, but what could have been done now.  It is a matter of comfort that the club members and their families did not pay special attention to this in the joy of colors.  However, we had made a mistake, which was later publicly acknowledged by the entire executive committee and assured that it would not be repeated in future.

Meanwhile, suddenly I remembered that I had left the prize coupon book in the room in a hurry.  Whereas these coupons were also to be included in the lucky draw.  At first I thought that I should forget this thing here, but when it came to know that the executive member Soban Singh had also left his book at home, then planned to bring a coupon book from the room.  Soban's flat and my room fall on the same route, so taking scooty from fellow Dinesh Khatri, we both started towards our respective places to get the coupon book.  After about 40 minutes we were again in the Press Club, by then the Rangotsav had begun.  Alexander's songs were resonating amidst the fragrance of Abir-Gulal in the atmosphere.

In the chief guest's room, elder brother Subhash Sharma and other guest elder brother Lokesh Navani, Navodaya Times (Punjab Kesari) editor Nishith Joshi were sitting in the front row.  The hospitality process was completed.  For your information, let me tell you that Subhash Bhai is a social worker as well as a senior journalist.  Two decades ago, he started publishing the daily 'Himalaya Darpan' on a large scale from Dehradun.  Then this letter became very popular and we also remained associated with it.  It was the bad luck of the state that the publication of this letter was stopped in a short span of time.  Now Subhash Bhai is running the portal with the same name.

The tone in the program was disintegrating.  Alexander's singing had the same freshness as it would have been 40-45 years ago.  It did not seem that he was 75 years old.  The same glow on the face, the same hanging in the style.  All the people present in the pandal who had heard Alexander in their time were in awe.  Alexander also left no stone unturned in fulfilling the requests of these acquaintances.  On his last rendition of the song 'Hori', there was a lot of abir-gulal uda and the whole pandal shuddered.  In the middle of the program, children also gave their performances and prizes were also distributed along with the lucky draw.

 It was time for lunch, so all the executive members of us, along with Subhash Bhai, Lokesh Bhai and Alexander, sat together in the canteen and had a sip of tea in the club office.  After this, along with the farewell of the guests, around four o'clock in the evening, I also took the path of the office with Satiji.  It is now twelve o'clock in the night and getting ready to sleep.  I was getting tired, so I returned from the office to the room around ten o'clock.  Right now the eyes are getting heavy due to sleep, so the rest of the things will happen tomorrow.  Goodbye until then.

बर्फ की चादर ओढ़े हैं हिमालय के चारधाम

उत्तराखंड हिमालय की चारधाम यात्रा के लिए तैयारियां शुरू हो गई हैं। हालांकि, यात्रा शुरू होने में अभी दो माह का समय बचा है, लेकिन मौसम की चुनौतियां इस बार कुछ ज्यादा ही हैं। नवंबर पहले पखवाडे़ से बर्फबारी का जो सिलसिला शुरू हुआ था, वह अब भी थमने का नाम नहीं ले रहा। इससे यात्रा मार्गों पर बर्फ के पहाड़ खडे़ हो गए हैं। कई स्थानों पर विशालकाय हिमखंड चुनौती पेश कर रहे हैं। जाहिर है इन हालात में यात्रा व्यस्थाएं तभी जुटाई जा सकती हैं, जब इसके लिए पर्याप्त समय मिले। इसलिए यात्रा प्रशासन अभी से युद्धस्तर पर तैयारियों में जुट गया है। पहले चारण में यात्रा मार्गों से बर्फ हटाने के साथ अवरोध बने विशालकाय हिमखंड काटे जा रहे हैं। इसके बाद उन परिसंपत्तियों की मरम्मत का काम शुरू होगा, जिन्हें बर्फबारी से भारी नुकसान पहुंचा है। साथ ही बिजली, पानी, संचार आदि व्यवस्थाएं भी बहाल की जाएंगी। आइए! आज आपको चारधाम की ही तस्वीर दिखाई जाए-

यात्रा परांपरा के अनुसार अक्षय तृतीया पर्व पर तीन मई को गंगोत्री व यमुनोत्री धाम के कपाट खुलने के साथ चारधाम यात्रा विधिवत रूप से शुरू हो जाएगी। छह मई को केदारनाथ और आठ मई को बदरीनाथ धाम के कपाट खोले जाने हैं।

Preparations have started for the Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand Himalayas.  Although there is still two months left for the journey to start, but the challenges of the weather are more than this time.  The process of snowfall which started from the first fortnight of November, is still not taking its name to stop.  Due to this, mountains of snow have stood on the travel routes.  Giant icebergs are posing a challenge in many places.  Obviously, in these circumstances, travel arrangements can be made only when there is enough time for this.  Therefore, the travel administration has started preparations on a war footing from now on.  In the first phase, along with the removal of snow from the travel routes, huge icebergs that have become obstructed are being cut.  After this, the work of repairing those assets which have been badly damaged due to snowfall will start.  Along with this, the systems of electricity, water, communication etc. will also be restored.  Come!  Today only the picture of Chardham should be shown to you-

According to the yatra tradition, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya festival, on May 3, the Chardham Yatra will formally start with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham.  The doors of Kedarnath are to be opened on 6th May and Badrinath Dham on 8th May.

किताबों की दुनिया

दुनिया-जहान को जानने की जिज्ञासा मुझमें हमेशा रही है और हमेशा ही किताबों ने इसे शांत किया। किताब के लिए मैं भोजन तक छोड़ने को तैयार रहता था। यह आदत आज भी है। नई-नई किताबों को देखकर तो मन ललचा जाता है। ऐसा होना स्वाभाविक है। किताबों से सृष्टि को जानने-समझने की दृष्टि जो मिलती है। कई बार मैं सोचता हूं, काश! दुनिया की सारी भाषाएं पढ़ पाता, तो दुनिया मेरे और मैं दुनिया के कितने करीब हो जाते। एक बात और, इन किताबों ने ही मुझे लोक से एकाकार कराया है। मुझे लोक से अगाध अनुराग है तो इसकी वजह भी बहुत हद तक पुस्तकें ही हैं, खासकर लोक की बोली-भाषा में ही लिखी पुस्तकें।

इस पुस्तक प्रेम के कारण ही साहित्यकार और साहित्य प्रेमी बडी़ तादाद में मेरे मित्र एवं शुभचिंतक हैं। इनमें कई तो देश के लब्ध प्रतिष्ठित साहित्यकार हैं। इसके अलावा साहित्यकार मित्रों में लोकभाषा (गढ़वाली-कुमाऊंनी) के साहित्यकारों की भी अच्छी-खासी तादाद है। इसलिए जब भी शहर में कोई साहित्यिक आयोजन होता है, वे मुझे उसमें आमंत्रित करना नहीं भूलते। खासकर, कथाकर जितेन ठाकुर, सुभाष पंत, हेमचंद्र सकलानी, डा.मुनिराम सकलानी, लोकेश नवानी, शांति प्रसाद 'जिज्ञासु', मुकेश नौटियाल, बीना बेंजवाल, सुनीता चौहान, गणेश खुगशाल 'गणि', नरेंद्र कठैत, संदीप रावत, डा.कुटज भारती, मदन डुकलान आदि। इनकी कोई भी पुस्तक प्रकाशित होती है तो किसी न किसी तरह मेरे पास अवश्य पहुंच जाती है।

आज (27 फरवरी को) साहित्यकार हेमचंद्र सकलानी की पुस्तक का विमोचन हुआ। कार्यक्रम उत्तरांचल प्रेस क्लब सभागार में दोपहर 12 बजे से रखा गया था। इसके लिए एक सप्ताह पूर्व से सकलानी जी मुझे याद दिला रहे थे कि मैंने जरूर पहुंचना है। सो मैं 11 बजे ही प्रेस क्लब पहुंच गया। लंबे अर्से बाद तमाम साहित्यकार मित्रों से एक ही जगह पर मिलना हो गया। कार्यक्रम शुरू होने में अभी समय था, इसलिए कई साहित्यकार व साहित्यप्रेमी क्लब परिसर में ही अलग-अलग स्थानों पर ग्रुप बनाकर चर्चा में मशगूल थे। एक कोने में कुछ पत्रकार साथियों के साथ लोक साहित्यकार रमाकांत बेंजवाल बैठे धूप सेंक रहे थे। मैं सकलानी जी से मिलकर सीधे उनके पास पहुंच गया। हालांकि, मास्क लगे होने के कारण मैंने उन्हें पहचाना नहीं। लेकिन, मुझे देखकर वे तुरंत अभिवादन के लिए खडे़ हो गए और बोले, 'कुकरेती जी शायद आपने पहचाना नहीं।' मैंने कहा, 'अरे भाई साहब! क्या बात करते हो', क्योंकि उनके खडे़ होने के अंदाज से मैं तब तक उन्हें पहचान चुका था। 

लगभग 20 मिनट साहित्य-संस्कृति जैसे विषयों पर हमारी बात होती रही। इसी बीच वे अचानक उठे और बोले, 'आपको कुछ किताबें देनी थी, लेकिन लंबे अर्से से मुलाकात नहीं पाई। चलिए! गाडी़ में रखी हैं, मैं आपको दे देता हूं।' मुझे तो जैसे मुहं मांगी मुराद मिल गई। उन्होंने मुझे तीन पुस्तकें भेंट की, इनमें रमाकांत बेंजवाल व बीना बेंजवाल द्वारा तैयार 'हिंदी-गढ़वाली-अंग्रेजी शब्दकोष', बीना बेंजवाल द्वारा अनुदित देश-दुनिया की स्त्री कविताओं का संकलन 'मिसेज रावत' और रमाकांत बेंजवाल की लिखी पुस्तक 'गढ़वाल हिमालय' (इतिहास, संस्कृति, भाषा, यात्रा एवं पर्यटन) शामिल हैं। हम गाडी़ के पास से क्लब की ओर आ ही रहे थे कि अचानक साहित्यकार शशिभूषण बडोनी से मुलाकात हो गई। वे भी कार्यक्रम में आमंत्रित थे। इसी बीच वहां लोक के सरोकारों को समर्पित 'धाद' संस्था से जुडी़ं कल्पना बहुगुणा व मंजू काला भी आ पहुंचीं। दोनों बहनें लोकचेतना की त्रैमासिक पत्रिका 'लोक गंगा' निकालती हैं, सो उन्होंने मुझे भी 'लोक गंगा' का बीते नवंबर में प्रकाशित अंक भेंट किया।

सकलानी जी ने भी मुझे अपनी पुस्तक भेंट करनी थी, लेकिन कार्यक्रम लंबा खिंचने के कारण मैं तीन बजे के बाद प्रेस क्लब में नहीं रुक पाया। आफिस जो पहुंचना था, इसलिए सकलानी जी से बगैर मिले ही वहां से रुखसत हो लिया। संयोग देखिए कि आफिस पहुंचते ही गेट पर सिक्योरिटी गार्ड ने भी मुझे एक लिफाफा थमा दिया, जिसमें 'धाद' पत्रिका के नवंबर व दिसंबर अंक थे। 'धाद' साहित्य व संस्कृति को समर्पित गढ़वाली भाषा की प्रसिद्ध पत्रिका है, जिसका संपादन साहित्यकार गणेश खुगशाल 'गणि' करते हैं। उनका स्नेह है कि पत्रिका का हर अंक मुझे जरूर भेजते हैं। इसके अलावा पत्रकार मित्र सतेंद्र डंडरियाल ने भी कुछ दिन पूर्व मुझे नीलेश मिश्रा का उपन्यास 'याद शहर-1' भेंट किया था। यह उपन्यास आफिस में ही रखा हुआ था, जिसे आज मैं अन्य पुस्तकों के साथ रूम में ले आया। 

अब धीरे-धीरे इन पुस्तकों को पढ़ने का क्रम शुरू होगा। हालांकि, रोजमर्रा की व्यस्तताओं के चलते पुस्तक पढ़ने को समय नहीं निकल पाता, बावजूद इसके फिर भी मेरी कोशिश रहेगी कि इन्हें जल्द से जल्द पढ़ लिया जाए। आगे और भी पुस्तकें पढ़नी हैं और इन्हीं तमाम व्यस्तताओं के बीच वक्त निकालना है। आजकल 'रेकी हीलिंग' व 'क्वांटम हीलिंग' को भी समय देना पड़ रहा है। इसके लिए सुबह पांच बजे हर हाल में जागना पड़ता है। खैर! 'जहां चाह, वहां राह', सब-कुछ ठीक ही होगा।

I have always had a curiosity to know about the world and books have always pacified it.  I was ready to leave even a meal for the book.  This habit is still there today.  It is tempting to see new books.  It is natural for this to happen.  The vision that comes from books to know and understand the universe.  Sometimes I think, Alas!  If I could read all the languages ​​of the world, then the world would have become so close to me and the world.  One more thing, these books have made me united with the people.  If I have great affection for the people, then the reason for this is also books to a large extent, especially the books written in the dialect of the people.

It is because of the love of this book that writers and literary lovers are my friends and well-wishers in large numbers.  Many of them are eminent litterateurs of the country.  Apart from this, there is also a large number of litterateurs of the local language (Garhwali-Kumaoni) among literary friends.  So whenever there is a literary event in the city, they don't forget to invite me to it.  Particularly, Kathakar Jiten Thakur, Subhash Pant, Hemchandra Saklani, Dr. Muniram Saklani, Lokesh Navani, Shanti Prasad 'Curious', Mukesh Nautiyal, Bina Benzwal, Sunita Chauhan, Ganesh Khughshal 'Gani', Narendra Kathait, Sandeep Rawat, Dr. Kutz  Bharti, Madan Duklan etc.  If any of his books are published, it definitely reaches me in some way or the other.

Today (27 February) the book of litterateur Hemchandra Saklani was released.  The program was kept in the Uttaranchal Press Club auditorium from 12 noon.  For this, Saklani ji was reminding me from a week ago that I must have reached.  So I reached the Press Club at 11 am.  After a long time, I got to meet all the literary friends at one place.  It was time to start the program, so many litterateurs and literary lovers were busy in discussion by forming groups at different places in the club premises.  Folk litterateur Ramakant Benzwal was sitting in a corner with some journalist colleagues and sunbathing.  I met Saklani ji and went straight to him.  However, I did not recognize him as he was wearing a mask.  But, seeing me, he immediately stood up to greet and said, 'Kukreti ji, you may not recognize it.'  I said, 'Oh brother!  What do you talk about', because I had recognized him by the way he was standing.

For about 20 minutes, we kept talking on subjects like literature and culture.  In the meantime, he suddenly got up and said, 'You had to give some books, but could not meet for a long time.  Let go!  I have kept it in the car, I will give it to you.'  I got my wish just as I asked for.  He presented me three books, in which 'Hindi-Garhwali-English dictionary' prepared by Ramakant Benzwal and Bina Benjwal, 'Mrs Rawat', a compilation of women's poems from the country and the world translated by Bina Benjwal and 'Garhwal Himalaya' by Ramakant Benjwal.  (History, Culture, Language, Travel and Tourism).  We were coming towards the club from near the car when suddenly we met litterateur Shashibhushan Badoni.  He was also invited to the program.  In the meantime, Kalpana Bahuguna and Manju Kala, associated with the 'Dhad' organization dedicated to the concerns of the people, also came there.  Both the sisters bring out the quarterly magazine 'Lok Ganga' of Lok consciousness, so they also presented me the issue of 'Lok Ganga' published in November last.

Saklani ji also had to present his book to me, but I could not stay in the press club after 3 o'clock due to the lengthy program.  The office which was to be reached, so left without meeting Saklani ji.  Incidentally, on reaching the office, the security guard at the gate also handed me an envelope containing the November and December issues of 'Dhad' magazine.  'Dhad' is a famous Garhwali language magazine dedicated to literature and culture, edited by litterateur Ganesh Khughshal 'Gani'.  It is his affection that he definitely sends me every issue of the magazine.  Apart from this, journalist friend Satendra Dandriyal also presented me a few days back with Nilesh Mishra's novel 'Yaad Shahar-1'.  This novel was kept in the office, which I brought to the room today along with other books.

Now gradually the sequence of reading these books will start.  However, due to day-to-day busyness, I do not find time to read books, yet I will try to read them as soon as possible.  More books have to be read ahead and time has to be taken in the midst of all these busyness.  Nowadays 'Reiki Healing' and 'Quantum Healing' also have to be given time.  For this, one has to wake up at five o'clock in the morning.  So!  'Where there is a will, there is a way', everything will be fine.
