आज 13 जनवरी है और कल होने वाले मकर संक्रांति स्नान की रिपोर्टिंग के लिए मैं छायाकार साथी राजेश बड़थ्वाल के साथ हरिद्वार पहुंच चुका हूं। रात के ग्यारह बज चुके हैं। कुछ ही देर पहले हम भोजन करके होटल में लौटे हैं। भोजन करने हम दूसरे होटल में गए थे। असली में सुबह दस बजे के आसपास हम यहां पहुंच गए थे। पौन घंटा लगा देहरादून से हरिद्वार पहुंचने में। वहां से ठीक नौ बजे चले थे। मैंनै राजेश से पटेल नगर आफिस में मिलने को कहा था। आफिस तक मैं अपनी बाइक से आया, जबकि वहां से हरिद्वार बड़थ्वाल जी की कार में।
हरिद्वार पहुंचने के बाद सबसे पहले हमने जमुना पैलेस स्थित एक होटल में चाय पी। हमारा आफिस इसी होटल के पास है। मैं देहरादून से भूखा ही चला था, इसलिए चाय के साथ एक ब्रेड पकोडा़ लेना बेहतर समझा। फिर कुछ देर आफिस में बैठकर मकर संक्रांति स्नान पर चर्चा की। दरअसल, परंपरा के अनुसार यह हरिद्वार कुंभ का पहला पर्व स्नान है, लेकिन कोरोना संक्रमण के चलते सरकार इसे महज पर्व स्नान मानकर चल रही है। जबकि, पूर्व में सरकार ने मकर संक्रांति स्नान को भी कुंभ स्नान ही घोषित किया था।
बहरहाल! मेरे लिए यह स्नान पर्व खास मायने रखता है, क्योंकि इससे आगे की झलक भी दिख जाएगी और यह भी मालूम पड़ जाएगा कि कोरोनाकाल में कुंभ के आयोजन को लेकर सरकार किस हद तक गंभीर है। कहने का मतलब यह स्नान कुंभ की रिहर्सल भी है। हालांकि, अभी तक लग नहीं रहा है कि स्नान के लिए कल श्रद्धालुओं का सैलाब उमड़ने वाला है। होटल पूरी तरह खाली पडे़ हुए हैं। जबकि, वर्ष 2010 के कुंभ में अब तक हरिद्वार पूरी तरह कुंभनगर में तब्दील हो चुका था और मकर संक्रांति की पूर्व संध्या पर कहीं पांव रखने तक को जगह नहीं बची थी।
फिलहाल आज की किस्सागोई यहीं पर खत्म करने की इजाजत चाहता हूं। सुबह चार बजे हरकी पैडी़ पहुंचना है, ताकि स्नान की वस्तुस्थिति मालूम पड़ सके। यहां ठंड भी बहुत ज्यादा है, पर शायद ही ठीक से सोना हो पाए, क्योंकि सुबह जल्द उठने की हड़बडी़ लगी रहेगी। खैर! कोशिश तो करनी ही है। वैसे सच कहूं तो मुझे ठीक से नींद अपनी कुटिया में ही आती है, लेकिन ऐसा हमेशा संभव कहां हो पाता है।

Today is 13th January and I have reached Haridwar with cinematographer partner Rajesh Baratwal for reporting the Makar Sankranti bath to be held tomorrow. It is eleven in the night. We returned to the hotel shortly after having lunch. We went to another hotel to have lunch. We reached here in Asli around ten in the morning. It took a quarter to reach Haridwar from Dehradun. Went there at exactly nine o'clock. I had asked Rajesh to meet him at the Patel Nagar office. I came by my bike to the office, while from there in Haridwar Barthalwal ji's car.
After reaching Haridwar, we were the first to have tea at a hotel in Jamuna Palace. Our office is near this hotel. I had gone hungry from Dehradun, so it was better to have a bread pakoda with tea. Then, while sitting in the office for some time, discussed the Makar Sankranti bath. Actually, according to tradition, this is the first festival bath of Haridwar Kumbh, but due to Corona infection, the government is considering it as a mere festival bath. Whereas, in the past the government also declared Makar Sankranti Snan as Kumbh Snan.
However! For me, this bath festival is important because it will give a glimpse of the future and it will also show to what extent the government is serious about the holding of Kumbh in the coronary period. Saying this bath is also the rehearsal of Kumbh. However, it is not yet known that there will be an influx of devotees for bathing tomorrow. The hotels are completely empty. Whereas, by the year 2010 Kumbh, Haridwar was completely transformed into Kumbhnagar and there was no space left on foot on the eve of Makar Sankranti.
At present, I want permission to finish today's story here. Harki padi has to reach at four in the morning, so that the condition of the bath can be known. It is also very cold here, but one can hardly sleep properly, because there will be a rush to get up early in the morning. Well! Have to try By the way, I sleep properly in my hut, but where is it always possible.
