कोरवा की मनभावन शाम

मैं जब भी घर से बाहर या सफर में होता हूं तो सुबह जागने में कतई विलंब नहीं करता। आज भी मैं अपने संकल्प के अनुसार सुबह ठीक साढे़ छह बजे जाग गया। आधा-पौन घंटे में फ्रैश होने के बाद मैं तैयार होकर विश्राम गृह के आंगन में आ गया। स्नान मैं ठंडे पानी से ही करता हूं, इसलिए निश्चिंतता रहती है। बाकी साथियों ने गर्म पानी से ही स्नान किया। केदारजी को देहरादून वापस लौटना था, इसलिए बड़थ्वालजी उन्हें सेमवालजी की कार से हाइवे तक छोड़ आए। हाइवे पर सिटी बस, विक्रम व आटो देहरादून के लिए हर वक्त मिल जाते हैं। बड़थ्वालजी के लौटने पर सभी ने चाय के साथ ब्रेड-मक्खन का नाश्ता किया और फिर आंगन में आकर आसपास के परिवेश की तस्वीरें उतारने लगे। 

नौ बजे हमने कोरवा के लिए प्रस्थान किया। गुलेरियाजी की कार में मैं और सतीजी बैठे, जबकि सेमवालजी की कार में किरण भाई और बड़थ्वालजी। बारह बजे के आसपास हमें कालसी के आसपास साथी चंदराम राजगुरु ने मिलना था। उनसे सतीजी की बात हो गई थी। हम आराम से चल रहे थे। किरण भाई को कमर में दिक्कत है, इसलिए कार धीमे ही चलानी थी, ताकि कहीं पर गड्ढे या डिवाइडर में कार उछले नहीं। विकासनगर से पहले हमें एक जगह सड़क के किनारे पान वाला दिखा तो वहां रुककर सभी ने अपने-अपने हिसाब से पान लगवाया। पास ही गन्ने के जूस वाला भी था, सो मैंने व बड़थ्वालजी ने मुंह में पान दबाने से पहले जूस पीने का निर्णय लिया। तकरीबन 15 मिनट हम वहां रुके होंगे और इसके बाद धीरे-धीरे मंजिल की ओर बढ़ गए।

विकासनगर, लांघा, अंबाडी़, बाड़वाला व हरिपुर को पार कर अब हम कालसी की ओर बढ़ रहे थे। नए भूगोल को देखने का आनंद ही अलग होता है, इसलिए मैं बडी़ उत्सुकता से प्रकृति के नजारों को निहार रहा था। दूर यमुना नदी पर बना पुल नजर आने लगा था। गंगा की तरह मैं यमुना के कल-कल निनाद को सुनकर भी भावविभोर हो जाता हूं। अजीब-सा रिश्ता है पहाड़ की सदानीरा नदियों से मेरा। सचमुच देहरादून जिले में यमुना का दीदार करना कितना सुखद एहसास है। साफ-स्वच्छ अठखेलियां करती हुई बह रही है यहां से यमुना। जिसने दिल्ली, आगरा आदि शहरों में यमुना को अपनी दुर्दशा पर आंसू बहाते देखा होगा, उसे विश्वास ही नहीं होगा कि यह बेपरवाह बहती नदी वही यमुना है। सचमुच कैसी विडंबना है कि जिस यमुना को हम यमुनोत्री धाम में मां के रूप में पूजने का दिखावा करते हैं, व्यवहार में उसकी निर्मला एवं पवित्रता की हमें रत्तीभर भी परवाह नहीं है।

खैर! यह एक लंबा एवं गंभीर विषय है, इस पर अलग से चर्चा करूंगा। अब हम यमुना पुल पर पहुंच चुके थे। ठीक सामने हरी-भरी पहाडि़यों से घिरे कालसी का नजारा सम्मोहित कर रहा था। देहरादून शहर से 56 किमी दूर यमुना और टोंस नदी के संगम पर यह वही कालसी है, जिस पर महाभारत काल में राजा विराट का शासन रहा और तब इसकी राजधानी विराटनगर हुआ करती थी। कालसी में यमुना नदी के किनारे अशोक के शिलालेख प्राप्त होने से इस बात की पुष्टि होती है कि यह क्षेत्र कभी वैभवशाली रहा होगा। सातवीं सदी में इस क्षेत्र को 'सुधनगर' के रूप में प्रसिद्ध  चीनी यात्री ह्वेनसांग ने भी देखा था। यही सुधनगर कालांतर में कालसी (कलसी) के नाम से जाना गया। ऐसे गौरवमयी अतीत वाले नगर में कदम रखना मेरे लिए तो प्रफुल्लित कर देने वाली अनुभूति है। 

यमुना पुला में उतरकर हमने वहां के नजारों को को कैमरे में कैद किया और फिर बढ़ गए मंजिल की ओर। साथी राजगुरु का फोन आ गया था कि वह कुछ दूरी पर ही अपनी कार के पास हमारा इंतजार कर रहे हैं। पांच-सात मिनट में उनसे मुलाकात भी हो गई। राजगुरु ने कार वहीं पास स्थित अपने मामा के घर में खडी़ की और हमारे साथ गुलेरियाजी वाली कार में सवार हो गए। अब वे हमारे गाइड की भूमिका भी निभा रहे थे। कालसी से चकराता तक का रास्ता पहाडि़यों से होकर गुजरता है। यह हाइवे वैसे तो दो लेन का भी नहीं है, लेकिन है बेहद रोमांचक। इस पर सफर करने का अपना अलग ही आनंद है। आगे पहाडि़यों की तलहटी में बसा साहिया कस्बा पड़ता है, जो जौनसार-बावर की व्यावसायिक गतिविधियों का प्रमुख केंद्र है। साहिया के बाद चढा़ई शुरू हो जाती है। इस क्षेत्र में ज्यादातर सड़क नंगी पहाड़ियों पर कटी हुई हैं। चुनिंदा स्थानों पर ही पेड़ नजर आते हैं।

कोरवा की ओर बढ़ते हुए वातावरण में ठंडक घुलने लगती है। कोरवा कालसी से 15 या 16 किमी की दूरी पर है, समुद्रतल से लगभग 4600 फीट की ऊंचाई पर। यह एक बेहद खूबसूरत गांव है। यहां से दो किमी के फासले पर पर्यटकों के लिए छोटी-छोटी काटेज कालोनियां बनी हुई हैं। खास बात यह कि पूरा इलाका देवदार के जंगल से घिरा हुआ है। दोपहर दो बजे के आसपास हम यहां पहुंचे होंगे। साथी चंदराम ने हमारे लिए तीन काटेज खुलवा दिए थे। ये उनके दोस्त के काटेज हैं, इसलिए हमारे लिए घर जैसे थे। हम दो काटेज के बाहर बेंच लगकर बैठ गए। चाय आ चुकी थी, जिसकी हमें इस वक्त सख्त जरूरत भी थी। कुछ ही देर में भोजन के लिए बुलावा आ गया। चावल, मिक्स मोटी दाल और रायता बना हुआ था। बहुत दिनों बाद ऐसा मनपसंद भोजन सामने था। सचमुच मजा आ गया। इसके बाद हम अपने-अपने काटेज में आराम करने लगे। 

काटेज में इलेक्ट्रिक केतली और चाय का सामान भी रखा हुआ था, सो हमने सोने के बजाय चाय बनाई और मजे से चुस्कियां लेने लगे। पांच बजे के आसपास हम टहलने के लिए हाइवे की ओर निकल पडे़। ऊंचाई पर होने के कारण यहां शाम ढलने के साथ ही पाला भी गिरने लगा था। शीतल मंद पवन के झोंके तन-मन को उल्लासित कर रहे थे। अपनी काटेज कालोनी से तकरीबन 500 मीटर दूर दूसरी काटेज कालोनी तक हम टहलते-टहलते गए और दस-पंद्रह मिनट वहां रुकने के बाद फिर वापस लौट आए। काटेज कालोनी के आंगन में झूला लगा हुआ है, जिस पर हम काफी देर झूलते रहे। इस बीच वहीं खुले आसमान के नीचे टेबल सज चुकी थी। मुझे भी साथियों के साथ बैठने में कोई दिक्कत नहीं थी। भई! कलेजी व फ्राई मटन का जायका तो लिया ही जा सकता था। पाला काफी पड़ने लगा तो यह सारा इंतजाम काटेज में शिफ्ट कर दिया गया।

अब रात के दस बज चुके थे। कैंटीन से भोजन के लिए पुकार होने लगी थी। सो, हम चल पडे़ कैंटीन की ओर चावल, मटन, पनीर और रायता की दावत का लुत्फ लेने। दोपहर से कुछ न कुछ खा ही रहे थे, इसलिए पेट भरा था। लेकिन, पहाड़ के हवा-पानी की यही खूबी है कि भरे पेट भी भूख लग जाती है। इसलिए मैंने तो फिर भरपेट भोजन किया। इसके बाद आधा घंटा हम आसपास ही टहलते रहे। इस समय रात के बारह बजे हैं। नींद नहीं आ रही है और सुबह जल्दी भी उठता है। फिर भी कोशिश तो करनी ही पडे़गी। सेमवालजी ने अपने मोबाइल पर सुबह चार बजे का अलार्म लगा दिया है, नींद खुल ही जाएगी। ...तो ठीक है कल देहरादून में मिलते हैं। शुभरात्रि!!

Pleasant evening of Korwa

Whenever I am out of the house or traveling, I never delay in waking up in the morning.  Even today, as per my resolve, I woke up exactly at 6.30 in the morning.  After getting fresh in half an hour and a half, I got ready and came to the courtyard of the rest house.  I take bath only with cold water, so there is peace.  The rest of the comrades took bath with hot water only.  Kedarji had to return to Dehradun, so Badthwalji dropped him in Semwalji's car till the highway.  On the highway, city buses, Vikram and autos are available for Dehradun all the time.  On the return of Barthwalji, everyone had a bread-butter breakfast with tea and then came to the courtyard and started taking pictures of the surroundings.

At 9 o'clock we left for Korwa.  Me and Satiji sat in Guleriaji's car, while Kiran Bhai and Barthwalji sat in Semwalji's car.  Around twelve o'clock we were to be met by fellow Chandram Rajguru around Kalsi.  Satiji had spoken to him.  We were walking smoothly.  Kiran Bhai has a problem in his back, so the car had to be driven slowly, so that the car would not jump in the pothole or divider.  Before Vikasnagar, when we saw a paan on the side of the road at one place, everyone stopped there and got paan applied according to their own accord.  There was also a sugarcane juicer nearby, so I and Barthwalji decided to drink the juice before pressing the paan in the mouth.  We would have stayed there for about 15 minutes and after that slowly moved towards the destination.

After crossing Vikasnagar, Langha, Ambadi, Barwala and Haripur, we were now moving towards Kalsi.  The joy of seeing the new geography is different, so I was very eagerly looking at the views of nature.  A bridge over the Yamuna river was visible in the distance.  Like Ganga, I also get emotional after hearing the sound of Yamuna.  I have a strange relationship with the evergreen rivers of the mountain.  Truly what a pleasant feeling it is to see Yamuna in Dehradun district.  Yamuna is flowing cleanly from here.  The one who would have seen Yamuna in the cities of Delhi, Agra etc. shedding tears over its plight, would not believe that this careless flowing river is the same Yamuna.  How ironic indeed is that the Yamuna which we pretend to worship as mother in Yamunotri Dham, in practice we do not care at all about its Nirmala and purity.

So!  This is a long and serious topic, which I will discuss separately.  Now we had reached the Yamuna bridge.  The view of Kalsi surrounded by green hills right in front was mesmerizing.  This is the same Kalsi at the confluence of Yamuna and Tons river, 56 km from Dehradun city, which was ruled by King Virat during the Mahabharata period and then its capital was Biratnagar.  The receipt of inscriptions of Ashoka on the banks of river Yamuna in Kalsi confirms that this region must have been once prosperous.  The region was also visited by the famous Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang in the seventh century as 'Sudhnagar'.  This Sudhnagar later came to be known as Kalsi (Kalsi).  It is a humbling feeling for me to step into a city with such a glorious past.

After landing in Yamuna Pula, we captured the views there in the camera and then proceeded towards the destination.  There was a call from fellow Rajguru that he was waiting for us near his car at some distance.  In five-seven minutes he also met.  Rajguru parked the car at his maternal uncle's house located there and boarded Guleriaji's car with us.  Now he was also playing the role of our guide.  The road from Kalsi to Chakrata passes through hills.  Although this highway is not even two lane, but it is very exciting.  Traveling on it has its own pleasure.  Further at the foot of the hills lies the town of Sahiya, which is the main center of commercial activities of Jaunsar-Bawar.  After Sahiya the climbing starts.  Most of the roads in this area are cut on bare hills.  Trees are visible only in selected places.

Moving towards Korwa, the coolness starts dissolving in the atmosphere.  Korwa is at a distance of 15 or 16 km from Kalsi, at an altitude of about 4600 feet above sea level.  This is a very beautiful village.  There are small cottage colonies for tourists at a distance of two km from here.  The special thing is that the whole area is surrounded by deodar forest.  We would have reached here around two o'clock in the afternoon.  Fellow Chandram had opened three cottages for us.  These are his friend's cottages, so it was like home to us.  We sat on a bench outside the two cottages.  Tea had arrived, which we desperately needed at this time.  In no time the call came for food.  Rice, mix thick dal and raita were made.  After a long time, such a favorite food was in front.  Really enjoyed it.  After that we started taking rest in our respective cottages.

Electric kettle and tea items were also kept in the cottage, so instead of sleeping, we made tea and started taking sips with pleasure.  Around five o'clock we started towards the highway for a walk.  Being at a high altitude, the frost started falling here as the evening progressed.  The gusts of cool gentle wind were cheering the body and mind.  We went for a walk till the second cottage colony, about 500 meters away from our cottage colony and came back after staying there for ten to fifteen minutes.  There is a swing in the courtyard of Katej Colony, on which we used to swing for a long time.  Meanwhile, the table was decorated there under the open sky.  I also had no problem in sitting with my friends.  Hey!  The taste of liver and fried mutton could only be taken.  When the frost started falling enough, all this arrangement was shifted to the cottage.

It was now ten o'clock in the night.  There was a call for food from the canteen.  So, we headed towards the canteen to enjoy a feast of rice, mutton, paneer and raita.  I had been eating something since noon, so my stomach was full.  But, this is the quality of the air and water of the mountain that even a full stomach feels hungry.  So I ate a full meal again.  After that we kept walking around for half an hour.  It is now twelve o'clock in the night.  Can't sleep and wakes up early in the morning.  Still, you will have to try.  Semwalji has set an alarm on his mobile at four o'clock in the morning.  ...Okay then see you tomorrow in Dehradun.  Good night!!

झाझरा वन विश्राम गृह की यादगार पार्टी

आज सुबह से ही हम कोरवा भ्रमण की तैयारियों में जुटे थे। हमें आफिस से ही झाझरा के लिए निकलना था, इसलिए मैं भी एक छोटे से बैग में जरूरी सामान लेकर आफिस के लिए निकला। यह बैग मुझे वर्ष 2008 में मानवाधिकार संस्था 'एमनेस्टी इंटरनेशनल' की ओर से दिया गया था। मैं तब एमनेस्टी का सदस्य हुआ करता था। सामान के नाम पर मेरे पास खादी का एक गमछा, बनियान-अंडरवियर, एक शार्ट, एक टी-शर्ट, टूथपेस्ट-टूथब्रश, साबुन व मोबाइल चार्जर ही है। इतने सामान के लिए यह बैग पर्याप्त है। दो रात व एक दिन के लिए इससे ज्यादा और क्या चाहिए।

अपराह्न तीन बजे आफिस पहुंचने के बाद बड़थ्वालजी से पता चला कि अभी सामान नहीं खरीदा गया है, इसके लिए थोडी़ देर में मुझे और उन्हें (बड़थ्वालजी को ) जाना पडे़गा। साढे़ चार-पौने पांच बजे के बीच शाम की मीटिंग निपटाने के बाद हमने सब्जी  मंडी की ओर रुख किया। मंडी में ही मसालों की दुकान भी लगती है, इसलिए हमें सामान खरीदने में कोई परेशानी पेश नहीं आई। दो किलो प्याज, 200 ग्राम लहसुन, थोडा़ अदरक, दो किलो खीरा, एक किलो आलू, डेढ़ किलो अरबी, एक किलो मूली, दो किलो टमाटर और जरूरी मसाले खरीदकर हमने सेमवालजी की कार में रख लिए। इसके बाद हम चिकन लेने पहुंचे। मुझे तो आइडिया था नहीं, लेकिन बड़थ्वालजी का कहना था कि चार किलो चिकन खप जाएगा और मजा देखिए कि पैक कराया साढे़ चार किलो। 

इसके अलावा पास ही एक दुकान से हम रिफाइंड, आजवाइन, जीरा और डेढ़ किलो बासमती चावल भी खरीद लाए। एक किलो पनीर व दो किलो दही बड़थ्वालजी पहले ही खरीद चुके थे। जबकि, ब्रेड हमने जाते हुए रास्ते में खरीदी। शाम ठीक आठ बजे सेमवालजी की कार से मैं, किरण भाई, बड़थ्वाल व स्वयं सेमवालजी झाझरा वन विश्राम गृह के लिए रवाना हुए। कुछ साथियों के लिए जरूरी पेय भी कार में रखवा लिया था। विश्राम गृह का रास्ता आनंद वन के बीच से गुजरता है, जिस पर बारिश के कारण हल्का कीचड़ हो गया था। घंटेभर पहले ही बारिश होने के कारण। खैर! रात नौ बजे हम वन विश्राम गृह में थे। लेकिन, वहां जाकर पता चला कि गैस का चूल्हा तो खराब पडा़ है। ऐसे में सेमवालजी ने केयर टेकर के साथ सेटिंग कर उससे चूल्हे की व्यवस्था कराई। 

इस विश्राम गृह में हम इसी वर्ष गणतंत्र दिवस के मौके पर भी आ चुके थे, इसलिए केयर टेकर हमें पहचानता था। सब्जी-चिकन धोने व खाना बनाने में हमने भी केयर टेकर की मदद की, सो दस बजे तक आलू व अरबी के गुटखे तैयार हो चुके थे, चिकन तैयार होने को था और चावल चूल्हे पर चढा़ए जा चुके थे। सवा दस बजे के आसपास गुलेरियाजी की कार से सतीजी, केदारजी व स्वयं गुलेरियाजी भी विश्राम गृह पहुंच गए। लगभग आधा घंटा सभी को फ्रैश होने में लगा होगा। इसके बाद हम सब विश्राम गृह के आगे आंगन में चबूतरे पर जा बैठे। वहीं कुछ साथी चुस्कियां भी ले रहे थे, जबकि बाकी साथी उनके साथ ड्राई चिकन, आलू-अरबी के गुटखे और सलाद का लुल्फ उठा रहे थे। साढे़ 11 बजे हमने केयर टेकर को भी उसके घर भेज दिया। हमें तो देर से भोजन करना था, इसलिए वो कहां हमारा इंतजार करते रहता। लेकिन, यहां तो गप्पों में कुछ ज्यादा ही देर हो गई। तकरीबन साढे़ 12 बजे हमने भोजन करना शुरू किया और डेढ़ बजे के आसपास हम इससे फारिग हुए।

अब सभी सोने के मूड में हैं। सुबह कोरवा के लिए प्रस्थान करना है। जाने की जल्दी नहीं है, लेकिन टाइम पर निकल जाएंगे तो थोडा़ घूम-टहल भी लेंगे। हालांकि, मुझे इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। मैं तो टाइम से उठ जाता हूं, लेकिन कुछ साथी देर से उठने के आदी हैं, इसलिए उन्हें दिक्कत होती है। सतीजी बता रहे हैं कि केदारजी को सुबह घर निकलना है। वो हमारे साथ कोरवा नहीं जा रहे। संभवतः घर में कोई खास मेहमान आ रहे हैं। उनके साथ ही केदारजी के घूमने का कार्यक्रम है। रात तो वो लिहाजदारी में हमारे साथ आ गए। खैर! ये तो सुबह की बात है, देख लेंगे। फिलहाल तो सो जाते हैं। ...तो मितरों कल सफर की नई किस्त लेकर हाजिर होता हूं। तब तक के लिए शुभरात्रि!!

From this morning we were busy preparing for the Korwa tour.  We had to leave for Jhajra from the office itself, so I also left for the office with essential items in a small bag.  This bag was given to me in the year 2008 by the human rights organization 'Amnesty International'.  I used to be a member of Amnesty then.  In the name of goods, I have only a khadi gamchha, vest-underwear, a short, a T-shirt, toothpaste-toothbrush, soap and mobile charger.  This bag is enough for so many things.  What more is needed for two nights and one day.

After reaching the office at 3 pm, I came to know from Badthwalji that the goods have not been bought yet, for this I and he (Badthwalji) will have to go in a while.  After finishing the evening meeting between 4.15 and 5.15, we headed towards the vegetable market.  There is also a spice shop in the market itself, so we did not face any problem in buying the goods.  After buying two kilos of onions, 200 grams of garlic, a little ginger, two kilos of cucumber, one kilo of potatoes, one and a half kilos of arbi, one kilo of radish, two kilos of tomatoes and essential spices, we kept them in Semwalji's car.  After that we went to get the chicken.  I had no idea, but Barthwalji said that four kilos of chicken will be consumed and see the fun that four and a half kilos are packed.  Apart from this, we also bought refined, ajwain, cumin and 1.5 kg basmati rice from a nearby shop.  Barthwalji had already bought one kg of paneer and two kg of curd.  Whereas, we bought bread on the way.

At exactly eight o'clock in the evening, I, Kiran Bhai, Barthwal and Semwalji himself left for Jhajhra Forest Rest House in Semwalji's car.  The necessary drinks for some companions were also kept in the car.  The road to the rest house passes through the middle of the Anand forest, which had turned a little muddy due to rain.  Because of the rain already an hour ago.  So!  At nine o'clock we were in the forest rest house.  But, after going there, it was found that the gas stove is defective.  In such a situation, Semwalji made arrangements for the stove by setting up with the care taker.  We had also come to this rest house on the occasion of Republic Day this year, so the care taker knew us.  We also helped the caretaker in washing and cooking the vegetable-chicken, so by ten o'clock the potato and arbi gutkha were ready, the chicken was about to be ready and the rice had been put on the stove.

Around 10.15 pm, Satiji, Kedarji and Guleriaji himself also reached the rest house from Guleriaji's car.  It must have taken about half an hour for everyone to get fresh.  After this we all sat on the platform in the courtyard in front of the rest house.  At the same time, some companions were also taking sips, while the rest were enjoying dry chicken, potato-arabi gutkha and salad with them.  At 11.30, we also sent the care taker to his house.  We had to eat late, so where would he keep waiting for us?  But, here it was too late to gossip.  At around 12.30, we started having food and around 1.30 am we got away from it.

Now everyone is in the mood to sleep.  Departure for Korwa in the morning.  There is no hurry to go, but if you leave on time, you will also take a little stroll.  However, it doesn't matter to me.  I get up on time, but some friends are used to getting up late, so they have problems.  Satiji is telling that Kedarji has to leave home in the morning.  They are not going to Korwa with us.  Perhaps some special guests are coming to the house.  Along with them there is a program to visit Kedarji.  At night, he came with us in favor.  So!  It's morning, we'll see.  For now, he sleeps.  So friends, tomorrow I am present with the new installment of the journey.  Till then goodnight!!

बीते बरस स्वतंत्रता दिवस के अवसर पर आसन वेटलैंड भ्रमण कार्यक्रम के बाद हमने तय कर लिया था कि अगले बरस भी ऐसे ही किसी स्थान के भ्रमण पर  निकलेंगे। लेकिन, तब एक ही दिन में वापसी करने के बजाय रात्रि विश्राम वहीं किया जाएगा। इसलिए पिछले कई दिनों से हम ऐसे स्थान की तलाश में थे। विकासनगर में साथी चंदराम राजगुरु से इस संबंध में बात हुई तो उन्होंने कालसी व साहिया से आगे एक हरी-भरी पहाडी़ पर बसे खूबसूरत पर्यटन स्थल कोरवा आने का सुझाव दिया। बोले, 'कोरवा में पर्यटकों  के लिए सुविधा संपन्न काटेज उपलब्ध हैं। इनमें से कुछ काटेज उनके दोस्त के हैं, जहां हमारे ठहरने और भोजन की व्यवस्था हो जाएगी। वह स्वयं भी हमारे साथ उपलब्ध रहेंगे।' 12 अगस्त को हम सभी ने कोरवा भ्रमण पर सहमति की मुहर लगा दी।

तय हुआ कि 14 अगस्त को रात आठ बजे के आसपास हम आफिस से ही वन विभाग के किसी नजदीकी गेस्ट हाउस में पहुंच जाएंगे। रात का भोजन वहीं होगा और अगले दिन अलसुब्ह कोरवा के लिए कूच कर देंगे। नजदीकी गेस्ट हाउस के नाम पर हमारे पास तीन विकल्प हैं, पहला कडु़वापानी, दूसरा आशारोडी़ और तीसरा झाझरा वन विश्राम गृह। आशारोडी़ विश्राम गृह पर हमारे बीच सर्वसम्मति नहीं बन पाई। जबकि, कडु़वापानी विश्राम गृह देहरादून वन प्रभाग की आशारोडी़ रेंज में पड़ता है और सघन वन क्षेत्र के बीच स्थित है। इसलिए वहां समय से पहुंचना बेहद जरूरी है। रात में हिंसक जानवर सक्रिय हो जाते हैं। साथ ही रास्ते में हाथी भी टकरा सकते हैं। फिर इन दिनों वहां तक जाने वाला रास्ता भी बरसात के कारण खराब है। सो, बेहतर यही है कि नंदा की चौकी से आगे झाझरा वन विश्राम गृह में ठहरा जाए। इस पर सभी एकमत थे।

भ्रमण पर हम सात लोगों सतीजी, गुलेरियाजी, केदारजी, किरण भाई, राजेश बड़थ्वाल, सुमन सेमवाल और मुझे निकलना है। रूपरेखा बनी कि किरण भाई, बड़थ्वालजी, सेमवालजी और मैं सेमवालजी की कार में साढे़ आठ बजे तक झाझरा पहुंच जाएंगे। जबकि, सतीजी, गुलेरियाजी व केदारजी आफिस का काम निपटाकर दस बजे तक गुलेरियाजी की कार से वहां पहुंचेंगे। तब तक हम वहां भोजन तैयार कर चुके होंगे। सारा सामान हम एक दिन पहले ही पैक कर देंगे, सिवाय चिकन, पनीर व दही के। हमें सिर्फ झाझरा में ही भोजन की व्यवस्था करनी है।

कोरवा की सारी व्यवस्थाएं साथी चंदराम राजगुरु कर रहे हैं। वहां से हम 16 अगस्त की सुबह देहरादून के लिए प्रस्थान करेंगे और दस बजे तक सीधे आफिस पहुंच जाएंगे। साथी चंदराम राजगुरु ने बताया है कि 15 तारीख को वे कालसी में हमसे मिलेंगे और वहां से हमारे साथ ही कोरवा पहुंचेंगे। दोपहर का भोजन कोरवा में ही होगा। जहां हमारे ठहरने की व्यवस्था है, वो काटेज कोरवा गांव से दो किमी के फासले पर एकांत में प्रकृति के सुरम्य वातावरण के बीच स्थित हैं।

कोरवा चकराता हाइवे पर स्थित है और चकराता वहां से महज दस किमी की दूरी पर है। हालांकि, पहाड़ में दस किमी की दूरी बहुत ज्यादा होती है। खैर! फिलहाल तो हम सभी कोरवा जाने के लिए उत्साहित हैं अखबार की दुनिया में स्वतंत्रता दिवस और गणतंत्र दिवस, दो ही दिन ऐसे हैं, जब साथी लोग एक साथ में बैठकर सुकून से छुट्टी का आनंद ले सकते हैं। इसलिए हमने तय किया है कि हर साल इन दो दिनों को शहर से दूर किसी सुकून वाली जगह पर ही इंज्वाय करेंगे। जीवन में एकरसता तोड़ने के लिए ऐसा करना बेहद जरूरी है। ...तो चलिए फिर, जुट जाते हैं कोरवा भ्रमण की तैयारियों में।

Preparation for Korwa tour

On the occasion of Independence Day last year, after the Asan Wetland excursion program, we had decided that the next year also we would go on a tour of such a place.  But, then instead of returning in the same day, the night rest will be done there.  So for the past several days we were looking for such a place.  Talking to fellow Chandram Rajguru in Vikasnagar in this regard, he suggested to come to Korwa, a beautiful tourist place situated on a green hill, ahead of Kalsi and Sahiya.  Said, 'There are facilities-rich cottages for tourists' in Korwa.  Some of these cottages belong to his friend, where our accommodation and food will be arranged.  He himself will also be available with us.  On 12th August, we all gave the stamp of consent on the Korwa tour.

It was decided that on August 14, around 8 pm, we would reach the nearest guest house of the Forest Department from the office itself.  Dinner will be there and next day Alsubah will leave for Korwa.  We have three options in the name of the nearest guest house, first Kaduvapani, second Asharodi and third Jhajhra forest rest house.  A consensus could not be reached between us at Asharodi rest house.  Whereas, Kaduwapani rest house falls in the Asharodi range of Dehradun Forest Division and is situated amidst dense forest area.  So it is very important to reach there on time.  The predatory animals become active at night.  Also, elephants can collide on the way.  Then these days the road leading to there is also bad due to rain.  So, it is better to stay in Jhajhra forest rest house, ahead of Nanda's post.  Everyone was unanimous on this.

Seven of us, Satiji, Guleriaji, Kedarji, Kiran Bhai, Rajesh Barthwal, Suman Semwal and I have to go on the tour.  The plan was made that Kiran Bhai, Badthwalji, Semwalji and I would reach Jhajhra by 8.30 in Semwalji's car.  Whereas, Satiji, Guleriaji and Kedarji will reach there by Guleriaji's car by ten o'clock after completing the office work.  By then we will have prepared food there.  We will pack everything a day in advance, except chicken, paneer and curd.  We have to arrange food only in Jhajra.

All the arrangements for Korwa are being done by fellow Chandram Rajguru.  From there we will leave for Dehradun on the morning of 16th August and will reach the office directly by 10 o'clock.  Fellow Chandram Rajguru has told that on 15th he will meet us in Kalsi and from there he will reach Korwa with us.  Lunch will be at Korwa itself.  Where our accommodation is arranged, they are situated in secluded nature amidst picturesque surroundings of Katej Korwa village at a distance of two km.

Korwa is situated on Chakrata Highway and Chakrata is just 10 km away from there.  However, a distance of ten km in the mountain is too much.  So!  At present, we are all excited to go to Korwa, in the world of newspapers, Independence Day and Republic Day are the only two days when fellow people can sit together and enjoy a relaxing holiday.  That's why we have decided that every year we will enjoy these two days at a comfortable place away from the city.  It is very important to do this to break the monotony in life.  So let's get ready for the Korwa tour again.

पेट्रोल में पानी

मैं जो चाहता था, वही हुआ और आज दोपहर तक मौसम मेहरबान रहा। इसका सबसे बडा़ फायदा यह हुआ कि मुझे बाइक की टंकी साफ कराने का मौका मिल गया। हालांकि, इसके चलते मैं योगाभ्यास को समय नहीं दे पाया। दरअसल, स्नान के बाद मैंने जैसे-तैसे बाइक स्टार्ट की और चल पडा़ इंदिरा नगर स्थित गैराज की ओर। तब सुबह के दस बज रहे थे, लेकिन गैराज का मालिक अभी दुकान में नहीं पहुंचा था। अलबत्ता, एक लड़का वहां जरूर मौजूद था और काम में जुटा हुआ था। मैंने लड़के से दुकान मालिक के बारे में पूछा तो उसने उसके दसेक मिनट में पहुंचने की बात कही। बाइक में किस तरह की दिक्कत है, यह मैंने उसे ही डिटेल में बता दिया।

इस पर लड़का बोला- "टंकी साफ करने में वक्त लगेगा।"

"लगभग कितना"- मैंनै पूछा।

"यही कोई पौन घंटा"- लड़के ने कहा।

"इतना तो चलेगा"- मैंने कहा और वहीं एक कुर्सी पर बैठ गया। दूसरी ओर लड़का भी बाइक से टंकी उतारने लगा। दस मिनट लगे होंगे उसे टंकी निकालने में। इसके बाद उसने पाइप से पेट्रोल निकालना शुरू किया तो दो-दो लीटर की दो बोतल फुल भर गईं। इसमें एक लीटर तो पानी रहा होगा। इस बीच गैराज का मालिक भी आ गया। मैंने उससे टंकी में पानी भरने की इस समस्या का समाधान पूछा तो उसने इसके लिए एक कवर बनाने की बात कही। बोला, "भैया! जिस दिन बाइक को सर्विस के लिए लाओगे, उसी दिन शहर ले जाकर टंकी के ढक्कन पर कवर भी चढ़वा दूंगा।"

मैंने उसे यह भी बताया कि इंजन के नीचे एक स्क्रू लूज होने के कारण लगातार इंजन आयल गिर रहा था, इसलिए मैंने कपडा़ लगाकर उसे टाइट कर दिया। इस पर गैराज मालिक बोला, "उसी दिन स्क्रू भी ठीक करवा दूंगा और अपराह्न तीन बजे तक आपको बाइक भी मिल जाएगी।"

मैंने कहा, "दो-चार दिन में बारिश थम जाने पर बाइक को सर्विस के लिए लाऊंगा" और बाइक लेकर वापस आ गया। मैकेनिक ने एक लीटर से अधिक पेट्रोल टंकी में वापस डाल दिया था। इसके अलावा पंप में जाकर मैंने भी दो लीटर पेट्रोल और डलवा दिया। हालांकि, लगभग ढाई लीटर पेट्रोल बर्बाद होना मुझे काफी अखर रहा था। ऐसा होना लाजिमी था। आखिर पेट्रोल सौ रुपये लीटर जो हो गया है और मुझे तो अपनी जेब ढीली कर भरवाना पड़ता है। परिवार का बजट गड़बडा़ता है, सो अलग।

बहरहाल! रात को घर लौटने से पहले मैंने पेट्रोल की टंकी के ऊपर प्लास्टिक का कवर कर उस पर अच्छी तरह टेप लगा दिया। टेप मैं आफिस आते वक्त घर से लेकर ही चला था। सुकून वाली बात यह थी कि टंकी साफ करवाने के बाद बाइक का बीच-बीच में रुकना बंद हो गया। साथ ही महज सौ रुपये खर्च हुए। इससे आज मेरा मन शांत है। सुबह तक तो इसी उधेड़बुन के चलते मन विचलित था कि न जाने कितने का चूना लगेगा। ऐसे में न तो ठीक तरह से नींद आ पा रही थी, न यू-ट्यूब चैनल देखने में मन लग रहा था। लेकिन, आज चैन की नींद सोऊंगा। भारी होती जा रही पलकें इसी ओर इशारा कर रही हैं।

Whatever I wanted, it happened and till this afternoon the weather was kind.  The biggest advantage of this was that I got a chance to clean the tank of the bike.  However, due to this, I could not give time to yoga practice.  Actually, after bathing, I started my bike and started towards the garage located in Indira Nagar.  It was ten o'clock in the morning, but the owner of the garage had not yet reached the shop.  However, a boy was definitely present there and was busy working.  I asked the boy about the shop owner and he told him to reach in ten minutes.  What kind of problem is there in the bike, I told him in detail.

On this the boy said - "It will take time to clean the tank."

"Approximately how much" - I asked.

"That's one and a half hours," said the boy.

"It will be enough" - I said and sat there on a chair.  On the other hand, the boy also started taking off the tank from the bike.  It would have taken ten minutes for him to take out the tank.  After this he started extracting petrol from the pipe, then two bottles of two liters each were full.  There must have been one liter of water in it.  Meanwhile the owner of the garage also arrived.  When I asked him the solution to this problem of filling water in the tank, he told him to make a cover for it.  Said, "Brother! The day you bring the bike for service, I will also take the cover on the tank cover to the city on the same day."

I also told him that the engine oil was constantly pouring out due to a loose screw under the engine, so I tightened it with a cloth.  On this the garage owner said, "I will get the screws fixed the same day and you will get the bike by 3 pm."

I said, "I will bring the bike for service after the rain stops in a day or two" and came back with the bike.  The mechanic had put more than a liter of petrol back in the tank.  Apart from this, by going to the pump, I also got two liters of petrol poured.  However, I was very worried about wasting about two and a half liters of petrol.  It was bound to happen.  After all, petrol is a hundred rupees a liter and I have to fill my pocket loosely.  The family budget messes up, so different.

However!  Before returning home at night, I covered the petrol tank with a plastic cover and taped it well.  I had taken the tape from home while coming to the office.  The comforting thing was that after getting the tank cleaned, the bike stopped stopping intermittently.  Also only one hundred rupees were spent.  This calms my mind today.  Till morning, due to this turmoil, the mind was disturbed that it would take a lot of lime.  In such a situation, neither I was able to sleep properly, nor did I feel like watching YouTube channel.  But today I will sleep peacefully.  The eyelids becoming heavy are pointing in this direction.

इस बार मानसून अपनी पूरी रंगत में है। शुरुआत में जरूर लग रहा था कि इस साल भी वर्षा ऋतु बिना बारिश के विदा हो जाएगी, लेकिन आषाढ़ के आखिर से बदरा बरसने लगे। सावन में तो लगभग रोज ही बारिश की झडी़ लगी रहती है। इससे हम जैसे कामकाजी लोगों की मुश्किलें बढ़ना लाजिमी है। अब देखिए, लगातार बारिश के चलते बाइक की टंकी में पानी आ गया है। इससे इंजन कहीं पर भी बंद हो जा रहा है। तीन-चार दिन से तो यह समस्या ज्यादा ही गहराई हुई है। बारिश थमे तो मैकेनिक के पास जाया जाए, लेकिन ऐसा भी नहीं हो रहा। मित्र नवल किशोर भी लगातार अपने घर बुला रहा है और मैं अब तक "हां-हां" कहकर टाले जा रहा था। लेकिन, दो दिन पूर्व मैंने इतवार को आने का वादा कर ही दिया।

आज इतवार है। सुबह ही नवल का फोन आ गया था कि, "साढे़ बारह-एक बजे तक पहुंच जाना, मैं सड़क में लेने आ जाऊंगा।" बेटी की बीमारी के चलते वो देहरादून में ही रह रहा है और यहां अजबपुर-सरस्वती विहार में किराये पर टू-रूम सैट लिया हुआ है। जबकि, स्कूल में ज्वाइनिंग उसकी ढांगू के ग्वील-जसपुर में है। मौसम का मूड आज भी उखडा़-उखडा़ सा है। लग रहा है बारिश होगी, पर मैंने भी ठान लिया है कि आज तो नवल से हर हाल में मिलकर रहूंगा। सो, साढे़ ग्यारह बजे के आसपास मैं घर से निकल पडा़, लेकिन पटेल नगर पहुंचते-पहुंचते बूंदाबांदी होने लगी। बाइक के बैग में बरसाती भी रखी हुई है, पर सड़क में पहनी नहीं जा सकती। सबसे बडी़ दिक्कत तो बाइक के बार-बार बंद होने से हो रही है।

खैर! बारह बजे मैं रिस्पना बाईपास हाइवे पर कैनरा बैंक के पास पहुंच गया। वहां नवल पहले से ही मेरा इंतजार कर रहा था। जिस मकान पर वह रहता है, वो अंदर गली में है, इसलिए मुझे रास्ता बताने वाला कोई तो चाहिए ही था। तकरीबन तीन साल बाद मेरी नवल से मुलाकात हो रही थी। बेटी की बीमारी के चलते वह बहुत परेशान है, ऐसे में कोई करीबी मिल जाए तो काफी सुकून मिल जाता है। एक-दूसरे से दर्द बांटने पर मन का बोझ भी हल्का हो जाता है। इसलिए मुझसे मिलकर उसके चेहरे पर खुशी साफ झलक रही थी। लगभग दो घंटे मैं नवल के घर पर रहा हूंगा। भोजन भी वहीं किया। चावल, हरड़ की दाल, पालक की काफली और खीर बनवा रखी थी मामी से उसने।

अपराह्न पौने तीन बजे के आसपास मैं नवल के रूम से आफिस के लिए रवाना हुआ। बाइक ने तो परेशान करना था ही, इसलिए मैंने मन ही मन ठान लिया कि कल यानी सोमवार को मैकेनिक के पास जरूर जाऊंगा। विचार तो मैं यह भी कर रहा हूं कि अगले साल किश्तों पर नई बाइक ले ली जाए और इस बाइक को रिन्यूअल कर जितने में भी बिकती है, बेच दिया जाए। दो-तीन साल से हर बरसात ऐसे ही परेशान कर रही है। खैर! ये बाद की बातें हैं, फिलहाल तो कल मैकेनिक के पास टंकी साफ कराने जाना है।

इसी उधेड़बुन के बीच यही कोई बीस मिनट लगे होंगे मुझे आफिस पहुंचने में। आज घर में बात नहीं हो पाई थी, इसलिए लाइब्रेरी में आकर सबसे पहला काम घर फोन करने का ही किया। हालांकि, डेढ़ बजे के आसपास रजनी का फोन आया था, लेकिन तब मैं नवल के घर पर था, इसलिए "बाद में बात करूंगा" कहकर फोन काट दिया। तकरीबन पंद्रह मिनट बात हुई होगी, फिर मैं अपने काम में जुट गया। ...फिलहाल रात के बारह बज चुके हैं और मैं अब बिस्तर में जाने की तैयारी कर रहा हूं। अभी कुछ देर एकाध यू-ट्यूब चैनल देखूंगा, कुछ गज़ल सुनूंगा और फिर नींद के आगोश में चला जाऊंगा।

Rain increasing difficulties

This time monsoon is in full swing.  In the beginning it seemed that this year too the rainy season would go away without rain, but from the end of Ashadh it started raining badly.  In Sawan, it rains almost daily.  This is bound to increase the difficulties of working people like us.  Now see, due to continuous rain, water has come in the tank of the bike.  This causes the engine to stop at some point.  After three or four days, this problem has become more and more serious.  If the rain stops, go to the mechanic, but this is not happening either.  Friend Naval Kishore is also constantly calling his house and I was being avoided by saying "yes-yes" till now.  But, two days ago, I made a promise to come on Sunday.

Today is sunday.  In the morning, Naval's call came that, "Reaching by 12.30 pm, I will come to pick you up on the road."  Due to his daughter's illness, he is staying in Dehradun and has taken a two-room set on rent at Ajabpur-Saraswati Vihar.  Whereas, his joining school is in Gweel-Jaspur, Dhangu.  The mood of the weather is still rough today.  Looks like it will rain, but I have also decided that today I will meet Naval in any situation.  So, I left the house around 11.30 pm, but by the time we reached Patel Nagar, it started drizzling.  The raincoat is also kept in the bag of the bike, but it cannot be worn on the road.  The biggest problem is due to frequent shutdown of the bike.

So!  At 12 o'clock I reached near Canara Bank on Rispana Bypass Highway.  There Naval was already waiting for me.  The house where he lives is inside the street, so I needed someone to guide me.  About three years later, I was meeting Naval.  She is very upset due to the daughter's illness, in such a situation, if she meets someone close, she gets a lot of relief.  By sharing the pain with each other, the burden of the mind also becomes lighter.  That's why the happiness was clearly visible on his face meeting me.  I have been at Naval's house for almost two hours.  Had food there too.  He had made rice, myrobalan dal, spinach kafali and kheer from his maternal uncle.

Around 3.45 pm, I left for the office from Naval's room.  The bike had to bother me, so I made up my mind that I will definitely go to the mechanic tomorrow i.e. on Monday.  I am also thinking of getting a new bike on installments next year and renewing this bike and selling it for whatever it is sold for.  Every rain for two-three years is troubling like this.  So!  These are later things, for now, tomorrow I have to go to the mechanic to get the tank cleaned.

In the midst of this chaos, it must have taken me some twenty minutes to reach the office.  Today there was no talk in the house, so the first thing to do after coming to the library was to call home.  However, Rajni's call came around 1.30 pm, but I was at Naval's house then, so disconnected the call saying "will talk later".  It must have been about fifteen minutes, then I got busy with my work.  ...It's twelve o'clock at night and I'm getting ready to go to bed.  Right now, I will watch a few YouTube channels for some time, listen to some ghazals and then go into the lap of sleep.
