आज का दिन अपेक्षाकृत आरामदायी रहा। कुंभ का पर्व स्नान (चैत्र प्रतिपदा व नव संवत्सर 2078 का शुभारंभ) होने के कारण मारामारी जैसी स्थिति नहीं रही। शहर में ट्रैफिक भी सामान्य दिनों की तरह चलता रहा। कोरोना के कारण स्थानीय लोग भी घरों में ही रहे। हालांकि हम सुबह आठ बजे हरकी पैडी़ पहुंच गए थे, लेकिन वहां भी बहुत अधिक भीड़ नजर नहीं आई। अन्य राज्यों से सीमित संख्या में ही श्रद्धालु स्नान के लिए पहुंचे। पर, सच कहूं तो कोरोना काल में यह भीड़ भी चिंता पैदा करती है। देशभर में संक्रमण के मामले लगातार बढ़ रहे हैं और हरिद्वार को छोड़कर उत्तराखंड के सभी प्रमुख शहरों में लाकडाउन लागू है।
खैर! हम पूरी कोशिश कर रहे हैं कि किसी के संपर्क में न आएं, पर लोगों के हुजूम के बीच ऐसा कहां संभव हो पाता है। अच्छी बात यह है कि मैं मन से हमेशा मजबूत रहता हूं। इसलिए यहां भी बेफिक्र हूं। फिर आज हरकी पैडी़ पर ज्यादा देर रुकना भी नहीं हुआ। यही कोई चार घंटे रहे होंगे हम वहां। फिर पत्रकार वीरेंद्र नेगी व एक अन्य स्थानीय साथी के साथ निकल पडे़ कुंभनगरी की सैर पर। कोरोना के चलते इस बार कुंभनगरी का विस्तार नहीं हुआ है। गंगा तट पर साधु-संतों के भी कम ही तंबू नजर आ रहे हैं। जबकि, 2010 के कुंभ में कुंभनगरी का ओर-छोर तक नजर नहीं आता था।
हम हाइवे से लगी पार्किंग के पास से नदी के तट पर उतरे और अस्थायी पुल पार कर मीडिया सेंटर होते चंडी पुल के नीचे वाली राह पकड़ ली। यहां भी अस्थायी पुल से हमने गंगा नदी पार की और दाहिनी ओर मुड़कर चल पडे़ तंबुओं के नगर में। लगभग तीन किमी का सफर तय अकर हमने वापसी के लिए फिर गंगा को पार किया और पहुंच गए एक विशालकाय आश्रम के पास। वहां प्रवेश द्वार किसी परिचित चेहरे की फोटो लगी नजर आई। गौर से देखा तो यह फोटो संत बालक योगेश्वर दास महाराज की थी। थोडा़ आगे बढे़ तो वीर शहीदों की स्मृति में सौ-कुंडीय अतिविष्णु महायज्ञ का बैनर लगा नजर आया। फिर तो आश्रम में उनसे मुलाकात की इच्छा बलवती हो उठी। संत बालक योगेश्वर दास हर कुंभ में इस अनुष्ठान का आयोजन करते हैं। 2010 के कुंभ में उनसे मुलाकात हुई थी। तब उन पर काफी लिखा भी। बडे़ आत्मीय इन्सान हैं। एक बार मिलो तो बार-बार मिलने का मन करता है।
महाराज जी इस यज्ञ के माध्यम से एक नेक कार्य और कर रहे हैं। वो जब भी यज्ञ करते हैं, उसमें शहीद जवानों के परिजनों को भी आमंत्रित करते हैं। इस 20-21 दिन के अनुष्ठान के दौरान इन परिवारों के बीच इतनी घनिष्ठता हो जाती है कि वो यहीं अपने बच्चों का रिश्ता भी तय कर लेते हैं। महाराज जी मूलरूप से जम्मू के रहने वाले हैं, लेकिन रहते बदरीनाथ धाम में हैं। वहां वो खाक चौक स्थित हनुमान मंदिर के अधिष्ठाता हैं। खैर! मुझे देखते ही वो पहली नजर में पहचान गए और बिना भोजन किए नहीं आने दिया। 2010 के कुंभ में भी मैं अक्सर उनके यहां भोजन किया करता था।
वहां से हम कनखल में बैरागी कैंप होते हुए सीधे आफिस पहुंचे। मैंने आदतानुसार आफिस के पास ही एक छोटे से होटल में चाय की चुस्कियां ली और फिर जुट गया खबरें लिखने मैं। नौ बजे के आसपास हम आफिस के पास वाले भोजनालय से खाना लेकर होटल के अपने रूम में पहुंचे। इस समय रात के 11 बजे हैं। भोजन हो चुका है और अब सोने की तैयारी है। कल सुबह फिर हरकी पैडी़ दौड़ लगानी है। मेष संक्रांति होने के कारण यह कुंभ का मुख्य स्नान तो है ही, दूसरा शाही स्नान भी है। ...तो ठीक है, कल मिलते हैं। शुभरात्रि!!!

Today was a relatively relaxed day. Due to the bathing of the festival of Kumbh (Chaitra Pratipada and the inauguration of the new year 2078), there was no such situation. Traffic in the city also continued like normal days. Local people also stayed at home due to Corona. Although we reached Harki Padi at eight in the morning, but there was not too much crowd there. A limited number of devotees from other states arrived for a bath. But, to be honest, this mob also creates anxiety in the Corona era. Cases of infection are increasing all over the country and the lockdown is applicable in all the major cities of Uttarakhand except Haridwar.
Well! We are trying our best not to get in contact with anyone, but where it is possible among the people. The good thing is that I am always strong in my mind. So I am careless here too. Then there was not even a long stay at every paddy. We must have been there for four hours. Then, along with journalist Virendra Negi and another local colleague, went on a walk to Kumbhanagri. This time Kumbhanagri has not expanded due to Corona. Even fewer tents of saints and saints are seen on the banks of the Ganges. Whereas, in 2010 Kumbh, Kumbhnagri was not seen in every corner.
We descended on the bank of the river from the parking lot along the highway and crossed the makeshift bridge and took the path under the Chandi bridge to the media center. Here also we crossed the river Ganges by temporary bridge and turned right and walked in the city of tents. After traveling for about three km, we again crossed the Ganges to return and reached a giant ashram. The entrance there was seen with a photo of a familiar face. If you look closely, this photo was of Saint Bal Yogeshwar Das Maharaj. Moving a little further, a banner of hundred-horoscope Atishvishnu Mahayagya was seen in the memory of the brave martyrs. Then the desire to meet him in the ashram was strengthened. Saint Bal Yogeshwar Das conducts this ritual in every Kumbh. He met at the 2010 Kumbh. Then he also wrote a lot on them. They are very intimate human beings. Once we meet, I feel like meeting again and again.
Maharaj ji is doing a noble cause through this yagna. Whenever they perform a yajna, they also invite the families of the martyred soldiers. During this 20-21 day ritual, there is so much intimacy between these families that they decide the relationship of their children here as well. Maharaj ji is originally from Jammu, but resides in Badrinath Dham. There he is the founder of Hanuman Temple at Khak Chowk. Well! He recognized me at first sight and did not allow me to come without food. Even in 2010 Kumbh, I used to dine with him often.
From there we reached the office directly via Bairagi Camp in Kankhal. According to my habit, I took a cup of tea in a small hotel near the office and then I started writing the news. Around nine o'clock we took food from the restaurant near the office and reached our hotel room. It is 11 o'clock at night. The food is done and now it is ready to go to sleep. Tomorrow morning, everyone will have to run a pedi race. Due to Aries Sankranti, it is not only the main bath of Kumbh, but also the second royal bath. ... Well, see you tomorrow. good night!!!
