पूरे दिन की बारिश

रात के ग्यारह बज चुके हैं, लेकिन बारिश थमने का नाम नहीं ले रही। बीती रात से यही हाल है। मेरे आफिस से घर लौटने के बाद रात एक बजे के आसपास बारिश शुरू हो गई थी, तब से यह सिलसिला बदस्तूर चल रहा है। मुझे उम्मीद थी कि सुबह पांच बजे तक बारिश थम जाएगी और मैं सुकून से आईएसबीटी पहुंच जाऊंगा, लेकिन ऐसा हुआ नहीं। बल्कि, सुबह के वक्त तो बारिश और भी तेज हो गई। ऐसे में मुझे छतरी की ओट लेकर मंडी पहुंचना पडा़। अच्छी बात यह रही कि पांच मिनट के अंतराल में मुझे आईएसबीटी के लिए विक्रम (आटो) भी मिल गया।

सुबह पांच बजकर 35 मिनट पर जब मैं आईएसबीटी परिसर पहुंचा, तब बारिश काफी तेज हो गई थी। बस अड्डे की छत भी जगह-जगह से टपक रही थी। चालक-परिचालक पुकार लगाकर विभिन्न स्थानों के लिए सवारियों को बुला रहे थे। कोटद्वार-लैंसडौन और कोटद्वार-धुमाकोट रूट वाली बसें भी अभी स्टैंड पर नजर नहीं आ रही थीं। लेकिन, इसी बीच पास ही से  "कोटद्वार-कोटद्वार" की पुकार सुनाई दी। इसके मायने यह थे कि अगल-बगल कहीं कोटद्वार वाली बस खडी़ है। मैंने पास जाकर पुकार लगाने वाले व्यक्ति से पूछा तो वह दायीं ओर खडी़ एक बस की ओर इशारा करते हुए बोला, "उसकी आड़ में कोटद्वार वाली बस खडी़ है, बस! थोडी़ देर में चलते हैं।" इसके बाद में उस बस में जा बैठा।

उम्मीद थी कि बस जल्द रवाना होगी, लेकिन यहां तो ठीक आधे घंटे बाद चालक के दर्शन हो पाए। पुकार लगाने वाला ही चालक था। इसके बाद बस ने धीरे-धीरे शहर को छोड़ दिया। अब सवारियां भी ठीक-ठाक हो गई थीं। जबकि,  आईएसबीटी से निकलते हुए बस में दस के आसपास ही सवारियां रही होंगी। खैर! मैं इस सबसे बेखबर बारिश में भीगती प्रकृति के सौंदर्य को निहार रहा था। बस रफ़्तार पकड़ चुकी थी और इसी के साथ बोझिल होने लगी थी आंखें। फिर तो कब हरिद्वार आ गया, मुझे पता ही नहीं चला। जब मेरी आंखें खुली, तब बस हरिद्वार बस अड्डे के गेट पर पहुंच चुकी थी। बामुश्किल पांच-सात मिनट ही बस वहां रुकी और फिर कोटद्वार के लिए चल पडी़।

चंडी पुल में भी दो-एक सवारियां बस में चढी़ं। इस स्थान से गंगा के विराट रूप के दर्शन होते हैं। खासकर इन दिनों ठीक सामने वाले छोर पर नीलधारा की मटमैली आभा तो देखते ही बनती है। वर्षाऋतु होने के कारण नील पर्वत भी हरियाली से लकदक है। इसी पर्वत के शिखर पर देवी चंडी विराजमान हैं। यहां स्थित देवी चंडी का मंदिर हरिद्वार के भीतर स्थित पंच तीर्थ में से एक है। अब बस हरिद्वार छोड़कर आगे बढ़ चुकी थी। फुहारें अब भी पड़ रही थीं। इससे सारे नदी-नाले उफान पर हैं और ज्यादातर वाहन नहर वाले रास्ते से ही नजीबाबाद पहुंच रहे हैं। मेरी बस भी यहीं से नजीबाबाद पहुंची।

नहर वाला यह रास्ता नजीबाबाद से लगभग पांच किमी पहले कोटद्वार की ओर हाइवे से मिलता है। ऐसे में नजीबाबाद बस अड्डा जाने के लिए वापस पांच किमी का सफर तय करना पड़ता है। यानी कोटद्वार पहुंचने में लगभग बीस मिनट का विलंब। मेरी बस में भी बस अड्डे की सवारियां थी, सो चालक को बस, अड्डे पर ले जानी पडी़। वहां से कोटद्वार पहुंचने में पौन घंटा लगा। दस बजे बस कोटद्वार पहुंच चुकी थी। मैं नजीबाबाद रोड चौक पर ही उतर गया। तब बारिश के साथ तेज हवाएं भी चल रही थीं। मेरे पास छतरी थी, लेकिन इस हवा में उसके उलट जाने का डर सता रहा था। खैर! जैसे-तैसे छतरी को संभालते हुए मैंने घर की राह पकड़ ली और लगभग बीस मिनट बाद मैं अपने घर के बरामदे में था। सफर ने काफी थका दिया था, इसलिए दसेक मिनट सुस्ताने के बाद मैंने स्नान करने से पहले चाय पीना ही उचित समझा। रजनी ने लगे हाथ चार-छह बिस्कुट भी दे दिए। इसके लगभग आधे घंटे बाद मैंने स्नान किया। फिर बच्चों के साथ गप्पों में कुछ वक्त गुजारा और कुछ देर टीवी देखता रहा। बारिश जारी थी, इसलिए बाजार भी नहीं जाया जा सकता था। 

जो सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात है, वह यह कि घर आने पर मेरा सारा शेड्यूल बदल जाता है। देहरादून में मैं रात का भोजन आफिस से लौटने के बाद बारह बजे के आसपास करता हूं, जबकि कोटद्वार में आठ बजे तक भोजन हो जाता है। भई, परिवार के साथ तो परिवार के हिसाब से ही चलता पड़ता है और मुझे इस व्यवस्था में किसी तरह का व्यवधान करना भी पसंद नहीं है। इसके बाद लगभग तीन घंटे टीवी देखने, पढ़ने व परिवार के साथ बातचीत करने के हैं। इस समय भी मैं डायरी लिखने के साथ टीवी ही देख रहा हूं। बच्चे पढ़ रहे हैं और रजनी अपनी सहेली से फोन पर बात कर रही है। सो, फिलहाल आज के लिए इतना ही...।

All day rain

It is eleven o'clock in the night, but the rain is not taking its name to stop.  This has been the case since last night.  After returning home from my office, it started raining around one o'clock in the night, since then this process has been going on unabated.  I had hoped that by 5 o'clock in the morning the rain would stop and I would reach ISBT comfortably, but it did not happen.  Rather, in the morning the rain intensified even more.  In such a situation, I had to reach Mandi with the umbrella of an umbrella.  The good thing is that within a span of five minutes I also got Vikram (auto) for ISBT.

When I reached the ISBT campus at 5:35 am, it was raining heavily.  The roof of the bus stand was also dripping from places.  Drivers and operators were calling the passengers for different places by calling.  Buses on the Kotdwar-Lansdowne and Kotdwar-Dhumakote routes were also not visible at the stand.  But, in the meantime, the call of "Kotdwar-Kotdwar" was heard from nearby.  This meant that a bus to Kotdwar was parked nearby.  When I went near and asked the person calling, he said, pointing to a bus parked on the right, "Kotdwar bus is standing under his guise, bus! Let's go in a while."  After that he sat in that bus.

It was expected that the bus would leave soon, but here the driver could be seen after exactly half an hour.  The one who called was the driver.  After this the bus slowly left the city.  Now the passengers were also fine.  Whereas, leaving the ISBT, there must have been only around ten passengers in the bus.  So!  I was admiring the beauty of nature drenched in this most oblivious rain.  The bus had picked up speed and with this the eyes were getting cumbersome.  Then when I came to Haridwar, I did not even know.  When my eyes opened, the bus had reached the Haridwar bus stand gate.  The bus stopped there for barely five-seven minutes and then left for Kotdwar.

In Chandi bridge also two passengers boarded the bus.  The vast form of Ganga is visible from this place.  Especially these days, on the right front end, the earthy aura of Neeldhara is created on sight.  Due to the rainy season, Neel Parvat is also covered with greenery.  Goddess Chandi is seated on the summit of this mountain.  The temple of Goddess Chandi located here is one of the Panch Tirthas located within Haridwar.  Now the bus had left Haridwar and moved ahead.  The showers were still falling.  Due to this, all the rivers and streams are in spate and most of the vehicles are reaching Najibabad through the canal route.  My bus also reached Najibabad from here.

This canal route meets the highway towards Kotdwar, about five km before Najibabad.  In such a situation, to reach Najibabad bus stand, one has to travel 5 km back.  That is, there is a delay of about twenty minutes in reaching Kotdwar.  My bus also had passengers from the bus stand, so the driver had to take the bus to the station.  From there it took five and a half hours to reach Kotdwar.  The bus had reached Kotdwar at ten o'clock.  I got down at Najibabad Road Chowk.  At that time strong winds were also blowing along with the rain.  I had an umbrella, but the fear of it turning upside down in this wind was nagging.  So!  Somehow, holding the umbrella, I made my way home and after about twenty minutes I was on the porch of my house.  The journey was tiring, so after resting for ten minutes, I thought it appropriate to drink tea before taking a bath.  Rajni also gave four-six biscuits with her hands.  After about half an hour I took a shower.  Then spent some time in gossip with the children and kept watching TV for some time.  It was raining, so could not even go to the market.

The most important thing is that my whole schedule changes when I come home.  In Dehradun, I eat dinner around 12 o'clock after returning from the office, while in Kotdwar it is done by 8 o'clock.  Brother, with the family, it has to be done according to the family and I do not like to interfere in any way in this system.  This is followed by about three hours of watching TV, reading and interacting with family.  Even at this time I am watching TV along with writing a diary.  The children are studying and Rajni is talking to her friend on the phone.  So, that's all for today...
