रक्षा बंधन के पर्व को लेकर हर ओर उत्साह का माहौल है। हालांकि, समय के साथ अन्य पर्व-त्योहारों की तरह रक्षा बंधन के पर्व पर भी बाजार का मुलम्मा चढ़ चुका है, बावजूद इसके मेरी कोशिश हमेशा यही रही है कि आत्मीय परांपराओं को बचाकर रखा जाए। इसके लिए जितना बन पड़ता है, अपनी ओर से मैं कोशिश करता भी हूं। रक्षा बंधन हमेशा मेरा पसंदीदा पर्व रहा है। कारण, इस दिन एक नया माहौल मिलता है, आत्मीयजनों से मेल-मिलाप होता है और इस सबसे बढ़कर सब एक साथ बैठकर भोजन करते हैं। यह रिश्तों की मजबूती का भी पर्व है। हालांकि, समय के साथ इससे तरह-तरह के उपहार आदि भी जुड़ गए हैं, लेकिन स्नेह और आत्मीयता अब भी इसके केंद्र में हैं।
बीते वर्ष मैं रक्षा बंधन पर घर नहीं आ पाया था। कोरोना के चलते सख्त लाकडाउन और क्वारंटीन रहने की बंदिशों ने घर की राह भी अवरुद्ध कर दी थी। मैं चाहता था कि रक्षा बंधन पर परिवार के बीच रहूं, लेकिन तब सार्वजनिक वाहन बंद थे और निजी वाहन से भी कोई इधर-उधर जा रहा था तो आस-पडो़स के लोग उसे क्वारंटीन करने के लिए उसके परिवार वालों पर दबाव बना रहे थे। ऐसे माहौल में बेहतर यही था कि हम जहां हैं, वहीं रहें और स्वास्थ्य का पूरा ख्याल रखें। इसी बात को ध्यान में रखकर मैं रक्षा बंधन पर घर नहीं आया। लेकिन, इस बार स्थितियां ऐसी नहीं थी, इसलिए मैं दो दिन पूर्व यानी 20 अगस्त को ही कोटद्वार पहुंच गया।
सोचा था रक्षा बंधन से एक दिन पहले बाजार जाकर कुछ खरीदारी कर लेंगे, लेकिन बारिश ने कदम देहरी से बाहर नहीं रखने दिए। ऐसे में रजनी पास की दुकान से ही बेसन समेत अन्य जरूरी सामान ले आई। रक्षा बंधन के दिन रजनी पकौडी़ जरूर बनाती है। असल में प्रभा, मीनू व रीनू की ओर से पकौडी़ की खास डिमांड रहती है। खासकर मीनू व रीनू कहती हैं कि उन्हें भाभी के हाथ की पकौडी़ बेहद पसंद हैं। मेरे ससुराल में भी सभी को रजनी के हाथ की पकौडि़यों का इंतजार रहता है। ऐसे में जरूरी है कि सारा सामान पहले से ही तैयार रखा जाए।
रक्षा बंधन के दिन काम का काफी बोझ रहता है रजनी पर। सारी तैयारियां उसे अकेले ही करनी हैं, इसलिए सुबह से व्यवस्थाओं में जुट जाना पड़ता है। घर का माहौल ही ऐसा है। खैर! इस पर किसी और दिन बात करूंगा। ढाई-तीन बजे तक घर के सारे काम निपटाकर फिर उसे भी भाइयों को राखी बांधने के लिए मायके जाना है। खास बात यह कि रजनी अकेले मायके नहीं जाती, बल्कि मैं और बच्चे भी उसके साथ होते हैं। इस मौके पर मेरी छोटी साली भी आई होती है। सो, सभी से मुलाकात हो जाती है।
बच्चे तो ऐसे विशेष दिन पर नाना-नानी के घर जाने के लिए खासे उत्सुक रहते हैं। रहेंगे भी क्यों नहीं, उनकी खूब आवाभगत जो हो जाती है। इसलिए ऐसे मौकों पर रात को भोजन करने के बाद ही हम घर लौटते हैं। संयोग से मेरी ससुराल घर के नजदीक ही है, इसलिए रजनी का वहां अक्सर जाना होता रहता है। जबकि, मुझे यह मौका छुट्टी आने पर ही मिलता है। उस दिन भोजन में कुछ-न-कुछ नानवेज अवश्य बनता है। कल भी निश्चित रूप से बनेगा। हालांकि, मौसम इन दिनों अनुकूल नहीं है, लेकिन इससे हमारे उत्साह पर कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ने वाला। जरूरी होगा तो छतरी लेकर चल पडे़ंगे।

There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm everywhere regarding the festival of Raksha Bandhan. However, with the passage of time, like other festivals, the festival of Raksha Bandhan has also become a market place, yet it has always been my endeavor to preserve the soulful traditions. As much as I can for this, I try my best. Raksha Bandhan has always been my favorite festival. Because, on this day a new atmosphere is found, there is reconciliation with relatives and above all, everyone sits together and eats. It is also a festival of strengthening relationships. Although, with time, various gifts etc. have also been added to it, but affection and intimacy are still at its center.
Last year I could not come home on Raksha Bandhan. The strict lockdown and quarantine restrictions due to Corona had also blocked the way home. I wanted to stay with the family on Raksha Bandhan, but then public vehicles were closed and if someone was going here and there by private vehicle also, the neighbors were pressurizing his family members to quarantine him. In such an environment, it was better to stay where we are and take full care of our health. Keeping this in mind, I did not come home on Raksha Bandhan. But, this time the conditions were not like this, so I reached Kotdwar two days ago i.e. on 20th August.
It was thought that a day before Raksha Bandhan, we would go to the market and do some shopping, but the rain did not allow the steps to be kept out of the door. In such a situation, Rajni brought other essential items including gram flour from a nearby shop. Rajini definitely makes dumplings on the day of Raksha Bandhan. In fact, there is a special demand for dumplings from Prabha, Meenu and Reenu. Especially Meenu and Reenu say that they love bhabhi's hand dumplings. Even in my in-laws' house, everyone is waiting for the dumplings of Rajni's hand. In such a situation, it is necessary that all the goods should be kept ready in advance.
There is a lot of work load on Rajni on the day of Raksha Bandhan. He has to do all the preparations alone, so he has to get involved in the arrangements since morning. Such is the atmosphere at home. So! I'll talk about this some other day. After completing all the household chores till two and a half to three o'clock, then he too has to go to his maternal home to tie rakhi to his brothers. The special thing is that Rajni does not go to her maternal home alone, but I and children are also with her. My younger sister-in-law also used to come on this occasion. So, everyone gets to meet.
Children are very eager to go to maternal grandparents' house on such a special day. Even if they stay, why not, they get a lot of hospitality. That's why on such occasions, we return home only after having dinner. Incidentally, my in-laws' house is close to home, so Rajni visits there frequently. Whereas, I get this opportunity only when the holiday comes. Some non-veg is definitely made in the food on that day. Tomorrow will definitely happen. Though the weather is not favorable these days, but that is not going to affect our enthusiasm. If necessary, I will walk with an umbrella.
