आज जाकर मैं कैप्टन कुणाल नारायण उनियाल के आध्यात्मिक उपन्यास अनंतरोहण (तीसरी दुनिया के रहस्य) को पूरा कर पाया। यह उनके अंग्रेजी उपन्यास का हिंदी अनुवाद है, बावजूद इसके इसका बेहतरीन भावानुवाद शुरू से आखिर तक बांधे रखने की क्षमता रखता है। उपन्यास की कथावस्तु बेहद खूबसूरती से बुनी गई है। इसमें कहीं भी झोल नहीं है। हर अध्याय के बाद रहस्य और गहराता चला जाता है। आदिकाल से स्वर्ग-नरक से जुड़े जो सवाल मनुष्य को कचोटते रहे हैं, कुणाल उन्हीं सवालों को तलाशते हुए जिस अद्भुत रहस्य से पाठकों को परिचित कराते हैं, वह अपने-आप में अनुपम है। इससे उनकी सनातन संस्कृति पर पकड़ स्पष्ट परिलक्षित होती है।

 मैं कुणाल से कभी मिला नहीं, लेकिन पूर्व में उनके कविता संकलन 'मैं तुला हूं' की समीक्षा जरूर कर चुका हूं। उन कविताओं के आधार पर ही मेरे मन-मस्तिष्क में कुणाल के व्यक्तित्व की जो तस्वीर उभर कर कर सामने आई, उनके उपन्यास को पढ़कर वह प्रमाणित भी हो गई। कुणाल अनुभवी मास्टर मरीन (एक जहाज के कैप्टन) हैं और रहस्य के सागर से ही चौबीसों घंटे उनका वास्ता पड़ता है। जैसे सागर स्वयं में अनंत रहस्य समेटे हुए है, वैसे ही अनंत रहस्यों का सागर है सनातनी संस्कृति। अध्यात्म एवं दर्शन इसके मूल तत्व हैं। कुणाल ने अपने उपन्यास में संस्कृति के इसी तत्व रूप से पाठकों को परिचित कराने की कोशिश की है।

हां! इन तमाम खूबियों के बावजूद उपन्यास में व्याकरणीय त्रुटियों की भरमार बहुत अखरती है। आश्चर्य होता है कि इस ओर क्यों ध्यान देने की जरूरत नहीं समझी गई। जबकि, हर पैरे में पाठक एक-दो बार तो अवश्य अटक जाता है। कई जगह तो वाक्य को समझने के लिए दिमाग पर जोर डालना पड़ता है। हालांकि, गलतियों को पूरी तरह नजरंदाज कर दिया जाए तो यह ऊंचे दर्जे का उपन्यास है। मैं उम्मीद करता हूं कि द्वितीय संस्करण में इन त्रुटियों को पूरी तरह दूर कर लिया जाएगा। उपन्यास के स्तर को देखते हुए मेरी पाठकों से अपेक्षा रहेगी कि वे इसे पढ़ने को अवश्य वक्त निकालें। उपन्यास प्राप्त करने के लिए आप मोबाइल नंबर 9897911187 या मेल आईडी narayankunal@gmail.com पर कुणाल नारायण उनियाल से संपर्क कर सकते हैं।

उपन्यास पर चर्चा के बाद अब अपने रुटीन पर आता हूं, जिसमें फिलहाल कोई बदलाव नहीं हो पा रहा है। मैं चाहता हूं अन्य कार्यों के साथ पढ़ने के लिए भी समय मिले। जीवन में ताजगी बनाए रखने के लिए पढ़ना बेहद जरूरी है। पुस्तकें हम पर संकीर्णताओं को हावी नहीं होने देतीं और कुछ नया करने की प्रेरणा के साथ ही हमारी सोच का दायरा भी बढा़ती हैं। इसीलिए मेरी पुरजोर कोशिश रहती है कि रोजाना कुछ-न-कुछ अवश्य पढूं। कुछ-न-कुछ अवश्य लिखूं। निराशा कभी भी आपके पास फटकने की हिमाकत नहीं करेगी।

 खैर! रात के बारह बज चुके हैं और मैं डिजिटल फार्मेट पर अध्ययन कर रहा हूं। आफिस से निकलते हुए सतीजी ने कहा है कि कल पुलिस लाइन ग्राउंड में प्रेस क्लब की टीमों के बीच खेली जा रही आजय गौतम मेमोरियल  क्रिकेट प्रतियोगिता का फाइनल मुकाबला देखने जाना है। 12 बजे आफिस से साथ ही चलेंगे, भोजन भी वहीं है। मेरे लिए तो यह ठीक ही है। घूमना-फिरना भी हो जाएगा और दोपहर के भोजन की चिंता भी खत्म। कई लोगों से मेल-मिलाप होगा, सो अलग। लंबे समय से शहर में निकलना भी नहीं हुआ। ... तो ठीक है, कल पुलिस लाइन ग्राउंड में ही मुलाकात होती है।

Secrets of the third world

Today I have completed the spiritual novel Anantrohan (Secrets of the Third World) by Captain Kunal Narayan Uniyal.  This is the Hindi translation of his English novel, yet its excellent translation has the ability to keep it hooked from beginning to end.  The plot of the novel is beautifully woven.  There is no confusion in it anywhere.  The mystery deepens after each chapter.  The questions related to heaven and hell which have been troubling human beings since time immemorial, the wonderful mystery with which Kunal introduces the readers while searching for the same questions, is unique in itself.  This clearly reflects their hold on Sanatan culture.

I have never met Kunal, but have reviewed his poetry collection 'Main Tula Hoon' in the past.  It was on the basis of those poems that the picture of Kunal's personality emerged in my mind, it was proved after reading his novel.  Kunal is an experienced master marine (captain of a ship) and has round-the-clock contact with the ocean of mystery.  Just as the ocean itself contains infinite mysteries, in the same way Sanatani culture is the ocean of infinite mysteries.  Spirituality and philosophy are its basic elements.  Kunal has tried to acquaint the readers with this element of culture in his novel.

Yes!  Despite all these merits, the novel is full of grammatical errors.  One wonders why this was not considered necessary.  Whereas, the reader gets stuck once or twice in every paragraph.  In many places, the mind has to be stressed to understand the sentence.  However, if the mistakes are completely ignored, it is a novel of a high order.  I hope these errors will be completely removed in the second edition.  Considering the scale of the novel, I would expect the readers to take the time to read it.  To get the novel you can contact Kunal Narayan Uniyal on mobile number 9897911187 or mail id narayankunal@gmail.com.

After discussing the novel, now I come back to my routine, in which no change is happening at the moment.  I want to have time to read along with other tasks.  Reading is very important to maintain freshness in life.  Books do not allow narrow-mindedness to dominate us and along with the inspiration to do something new, they also increase the scope of our thinking.  That's why I try hard that I must read something or the other every day.  I must write something.  Despair will never dare to hit you.

So!  It is twelve o'clock in the night and I am studying in digital format.  While leaving the office, Satiji has said that tomorrow at Police Line Ground, I have to go to see the final match of the Ajay Gautam Memorial cricket competition being played between the teams of Press Club.  We will walk together from the office at 12 o'clock, the food is also there.  For me that's fine.  Traveling will be done and the worry about lunch will also end.  There will be reconciliation with many people, so different.  Haven't even been out in the city for a long time.  ... Well then, tomorrow there is a meeting at the Police Line Ground.
